I'm talking about the one recorded by The Sundays which was featured in the movie Fear. The scene it's used in has Mark Wahlberg and Reese Witherspoon riding a rollercoaster and doing... other stuff. This is still a PG blog, right? Oh, I guess I figured out what the unknown reason is too... I watched Fear last week. So, we're going back to a previously used tradition here on It's My Kind of Scene. We feature the amazing original above AND the fun cover version below. Top 300 Songs of the 2000s, #10 - 1

Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls... all four of you out there in cyberspace reading this blog, it's the post you've been waiting your life (three weeks) for; the top 10 songs of the 2000s. Over the last twenty-nine posts we heard 290 songs that made us laugh, made us cry, or made us do neither of those two things but maybe do some other stuff instead. Music's biggest stars came out to play, (Red Hot Chili Peppers, Rihanna, Britney Spears, OutKast) as did some critical favourites (Cat Power, Damien Rice, Bat For Lashes, Antony and the Johnsons). But now we're ready to say hello to the ten best songs of a decade chock full of good ones. Of course I'm ready, I already know what they are! The question is, are you ready? You'd better be, because here we go...

Rolling Stone had it at #3. Pitchfork placed in one spot back at #4. NME went all out and declared it the #1 song of the 2000s. You can understand how 'Crazy In Love' charts within the top 10 of virtually every end of decade countdown out there. It really is that good. Beyonce showed in the delivery of one spectacular song, one of what would become many, that she was the Diana Ross of Destiny's Child... someone that wouldn't be stopped from achieving solo success by anyone or anything. Somehow she's managed to deliver time and time again, becoming one of the highest selling and most respected female artists of the 21st century. But nothing tops her debut. 'Crazy In Love' is a party song, an empowering anthem, one of the greatest love songs in pop form and really, it's one of the greatest songs of the 2000s. However, it's not the greatest song of the 2000s.

But saying that, tomorrow will probably be Ke$ha aka rapper Key Dollar Sign Ha. Don't forget, that previously mentioned countdown ends today (!) so stay tuned... it's gonna be good. Can Rihanna do wrong? She's like a hit making machine, so it will be interesting to see how high 'All of the Lights' can go on the charts. The video was finally released last week to what was one of the highlights from West's My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy (which really is a huge call, considering every song ranged from good to amazing), featuring not only Rihanna and Kid Cudi, but Fergie, Alicia Keys, John Legend, La Roux, The Dream, Elton John and more. None of the bonus acts get a feature in the video, but it's still good... very good. How good? Look for it to make a big debut on this weeks Top 20!

How about that amazing performance at the BRIT Awards? The one above? Yep, that'll do it.

YouTube are promoting Oh Land something fierce at the moment, so I thought I'd check out one of her songs. Initial thoughts moved in more of a Lykke Li than Lady Gaga direction which is good. Oh Land hails from Denmark, so I think it's more of European thing to be quirky and original, as opposed to US and Australian based electro sirens who go the Gaga route. 'Sun Of A Gun' flies by, leaving you wanting to hear more and more from another exciting act that looks set to make an impact in 2011. Have I said how good this year's been already?

Again, I don't have much to say other than it's three for three for Li, with 'Love Out of Lust' joining 'Get Some' and 'I Follow Rivers' in the 'excellent songs' realm.

Another band that are due for a 2011 release, Arctic Monkeys brought the goods in 2009 with the amazingly underrated song 'Crying Lightning.' This should have been a huge crossover hit for them, but it didn't even manage to place on US or Australian singles charts. Shame.

May 8 sees the release of new album, Moment Bends (not Vision Revision as was previously reported), so make sure you mark it in your calendars. It's going to be an album you really need to own.

It's not the most exciting comeback single, but then again, they're not the most exciting band. That's not a bad thing, it's just indie folk acts tend to be a bit more... mellow?

With every release from Detox, Dr. Dre is showing that he could have his most successful album to date on his hands and 'I Need A Doctor' should place huge on singles charts around the world. Grammy Awards 2011 Recap

 

Arcade Fire: Album of the Year winners!



Arcade Fire won Album of the Year. I think that needs to be repeated, because it still doesn't seem real... Arcade Fire won Album of the Year!!! That alone makes me give the 2011 Grammy Awards a big thumbs up. What else was good? The performances. Well, most of them. Janelle Monae, Eminem, Arcade Fire, Lady Gaga, Rihanna and Mick Jagger brought the goods and made the night one to remember.

Lady Antebellum dominated with the track and album 'Need You Now,' walking away with Record of the Year, Song of the Year and Country Album of the Year, proving that country music remains a force to be reckoned with in the USA. Muse topped Pearl Jam to win Rock Album of the Year and Lady Gaga, while losing out on Album of the Year, took home Best Pop Vocal Album and Best Female Pop Vocal for The Fame Monster and 'Bad Romance' respectively.

After a pretty rough month, Christina Aguilera showed she still had it by performing alongside Florence Welch, Yolanda Adams, Jennifer Hudson and Martina McBride in a fantastic tribute to the Queen of Soul, Aretha Franklin. You could feel how happy each lady was to be a part of it and the smile on Florence's face while she boogied on down was just brilliant. Florence + The Machine sadly didn't pick up Best New Artist, but Esperenza Spalding's winners speech was well delivered (and it was just awesome that Justin Bieber didn't win).

What was the best performance of the night? Hands down, the combination of 'Love the Way You Lie pt. 2' with 'I Need A Doctor.' Rihanna, Eminem, Skylar Grey (aka the hot new artist to watch) and Dr. Dre were amazing and gave us a performance that will stay with us and propel 'I Need A Doctor' to the top of the charts.

A close runner-up though was another big collaboration, this time by new kids on the block (no, not the one with Donny Wahlberg) B.o.B, Bruno Mars and Janelle Monae. Janelle Monae deserves a special shout out for absolutely KILLING IT when it came time for her to unleash 'Cold War' on a very grateful audience.

It's not the official first single from their next album, but I'll take what I can get from the Foo Fighters and 'White Limo' is a fairly interesting (and pretty damn good) release from the band. Accompanied by a home-made video (with Lemmy as their driver!) the track rockets through at a rapid pace, distorted vocals and all. If you were let down by 'Wheels,' this should be enough to get you firmly back on board. So, what do you think of the 'White Limo?'
