Top 300 Songs of the 2000s, #20 - 11

OutKast: they love Lucy Liu.

Welcome to the penultimate edition of the biggest countdown It's My Kind of Scene has put together! That's right, the end is nigh for the Top 300 Songs of the 2000s. Today we meet the bridesmaids, ten songs that narrowly missed out on making the top 10. The brides, aka the top 10, we'll see those tomorrow. But first, the bridesmaids. Everyone likes the bridesmaids because generally they're single and ready to mingle... what? We're getting waaay off topic now, so let's hear some music!

#20 - Hey Ya! (2003)
by OutKast

If what they say is, "nothing is forever," then what makes,
What makes, what makes, love the exception?

OutKast's fifth and final song to make the list, and their biggest commercial hit, 'Hey Ya!' remains the funnest, most exciting track in their catalogue.

#19 - She's Hearing Voices (2004)
by Bloc Party

She got a red pill blue pill,
Red pill blue pill, red pill blue pill...

#18 - Low Happening (2005)
by Howling Bells

You watch me, I watch you,
You changed me, Like I knew...

Why does Juanita Stein look so jubilant in the banner above? Because 'Low Happening' came in at such an awesome place on the countdown. Duh.

#17 - Californication (2000)
by Red Hot Chili Peppers

Space may be the final frontier,
But it's made in a Hollywood basement...

While they've released good, satisfactory music since, this was the last time the Red Hot Chili Peppers released something so good you just had to listen to it over and over (and over and over) again. And again and again and again. Great lyrics, a memorable and catchy hook plus an excellent music video. If they ever get around to releasing their new album, which Kiedis says is tentatively titled Dr. Johnny Skinz's Disproportionately Rambunctious Polar Express Machine-head, hopefully they recapture some of the magic from this and the earlier stages of their career. No, I'm not kidding about the album title and yes, with an album title like that I shouldn't hold out too much hope.

#16 - Cosmic Love (2009)
by Florence + The Machine

The stars, the moon, they have all been blown out,
You left me in the dark...

Epic. Ask anyone after their first experience with 'Cosmic Love' and you've got a 98.32% chance of them describing it as epic. The orchestration, the lyrics, the soaring vocals provided by the exquisite Florence Welch... it's all so very epic.

#15 - Heartbeats (2002)
by The Knife

Ten days of perfect tunes, the colours red and blue,
We had a promise made, we were in love...

The #1 must-have song for any festival experience slash road trip.

#14 - Breathe Me (2004)
by Sia

Be my friend, hold me,
Wrap me up, unfold me...

I'll always be grateful to the peeps that chose the music for Six Feet Under. They used the intense and powerful 'Breathe Me' to close out the show's final episode, making a household name out of its beautiful singer, Sia Furler.

#13 - All These Things That I've Done (2004)
by The Killers

Over and in, last call for sin, while everyone's lost,
The battle is won, with all these things that I've done...

Brandon Flowers can rest easy tonight; The Killers earned two places in the top 50. Yes, because Brandon Flowers' life depends on how well he does on this countdown. Seriously? You'll never know...

#12 - Fell In Love With A Girl (2002)
by The White Stripes

My left brain knows that our love is fleeting...

The White Stripes; gone, but not forgotten. Mostly because it's been like a month since they decided to call it quits. They became one of the greatest rock bands the world would see in the 2000s, but this isn't the song that made them superstars. That would be...

#11 - Clint Eastwood (2001)
by Gorillaz

Feelings, sensations that you thought were dead,
No squealing, remember (that it's all in your head)...

See you tomorrow for the top 10 songs of the 2000s!
