Top 300 Songs of the 2000s, #100 - 91

Blink-182: All grown up.

BOOM! What's that sound? Why, it's the official start to the top 100 songs of the 2000s. I'd tell you to get excited, but you're already well past the point of excitement, right? Right. Many genres are being represented in our next set of songs; rap, country, rock, electronic, "punk," indie and pop. But what songs are they going to be? Let's find out...

#100 - Crying Lightning (2009)
by Arctic Monkeys

And I love that little game you have called, crying lightning...

Another band that are due for a 2011 release, Arctic Monkeys brought the goods in 2009 with the amazingly underrated song 'Crying Lightning.' This should have been a huge crossover hit for them, but it didn't even manage to place on US or Australian singles charts. Shame.

#99 - Cop That S*it (2003)
by Timbaland and Magoo ft. Missy Elliott

When you say you love me, it doesn't matter,
It goes into my head it's just chit-chatter...

Not quite the Timbaland we heard on songs like 'The Way I Are' or 'If We Ever Meet Again' and that's a good thing. A very, very good thing. This was one of the last times that Timbaland and Missy would collaborate together with results you could only describe as magic.

#98 - Love Is Noise (2008)
by The Verve

Love is noise and love is pain,
Love is these blues that I'm singing again...

#97 - Man of the Hour (2003)
by Pearl Jam

Cause the man of the hour, is taking his final bow,
Goodbye for now...

Used as the theme for the film Big Fish, 'Man of the Hour' would be Eddie Vedder's greatest songwriting accomplishment in the first decade of the 2000s.

#96 - Catch (2000)
by Kosheen

Call it luck, call it faith,
Call me beautiful to my face...

#95 - Not Ready To Make Nice (2006)
by Dixie Chicks

It's a sad, sad story when a mother will teach her,
Daughter that she ought to hate a perfect stranger...

The song would win the Dixie Chicks Grammys for Song and Record of the Year (completing a clean sweep on the night with Album of the Year honours) and deservedly so. 'Not Ready To Make Nice' was the perfect way to say get bent to the radio stations that black listed them, the people that organised burnings of their CDs and the psychotics that went so far as to send them death threats for simply stating their embarrassment that the American President was from Texas. If they had said it the following year when it was the cool thing to do, there wouldn't have been a problem.

#94 - By The Way (2002)
by Red Hot Chili Peppers

Standing in line to see the show tonight,
And there's a light on, heavy glow...

#93 - Adam's Song (2000)
by Blink-182

I never thought I'd die alone,
I laughed the loudest who'd have known?

The moment where an almost 'joke band' showed they could make heavy-hitting music that could make you think. If 'Adam's Song' doesn't give you a moment's pause then sorry, you're emotionally damaged... yay!

#92 - Where I Stood (2007)
by Missy Higgins

I don't know what I've done,
Or if I like what I've begun...

#91 - Perfect Now (2004)
by Sarah Blasko

I can't find forever in your eyes,
I should leave you while they're dry...

Let Sarah Blasko take you on a rollercoaster... of emotions!
