Top 300 Songs of the 2000s, #30 - 21

Madonna: But you already knew that.

30 songs, that's all that's left boys and girls. We're just 29 songs away from revealing our #1... what's it going to be? I can tell you who it WON'T be. It won't be one of our next ten acts. Who are they? Let's find out...

#30 - Smile (2006)
by Lily Allen

Now you're calling me up on the phone,
So you can have a little whine and a moan...

She's come a long way. Well, as far as you can go with two quality albums... but her debut remains the greatest thing Ms Allen has graced our ears with.

#29 - Since I Left You (2000)
by The Avalanches

Since I left you,
I left the world so new...

At this point it doesn't even matter if they never release anything new... it's been that long. Almost long enough to make you forget about amazing songs like 'Since I Left You.' Almost.

#28 - Let's Dance to Joy Division (2007)
by The Wombats

Everything is going wrong,
But we're so happy...

See, Indie doesn't have to be all doom and gloom. If it was, it would just be emo. Luckily it's fair and balanced with fun (fun, FUN!) songs like 'Let's Dance to Joy Division.' It's one of those songs guaranteed to bring a smile to your dial.

#27 - Crazy (2006)
by Gnarls Barkley

Come on now who do you, who do you, who do you, who do you,
Think you are? Ha ha ha, bless your soul...

'Crazy' came out of nowhere to top the charts worldwide and bring some attention to the vocal wonder that is, Cee-Lo Green. Danger Mouse has been working hard too and hopefully one day he'll obtain the same success Cee-Lo is enjoying now.

#26 - Back to Black (2007)
by Amy Winehouse

We only said good-bye with words,
I died a hundred times...

Speaking of vocal wonders, did vocals get any better over the last decade than those of Amy Winehouse?

#25 - Beautiful (2001)
by India.Arie

The time is right, I'm gonna pack my bags,
And take that journey down the road...

The best R&B ballad of the decade? You betcha!

#24 - Are You the One? (2005)
by The Presets

I don't know why, I've got it so bad...

Are you the Juan? That scene alone in the music video would make it one of the best songs of the decade. But there's a lot more going for it than just that. If you're heard it before, you know what I mean. If you haven't heard it before, what are you waiting for?

#23 - Staring At the Sun (2004)
by TV on the Radio

Cross the street from your storefront cemetery,
Hear me hailing from inside and realize...

#22 - Music (2000)
by Madonna

Music makes the bourgeoisie and the rebel...

Madonna, the Queen of Pop. She made the top 10 in our 80s and 90s countdowns, but she just misses out on the top 10 for this one. Still, coming in at #22 is a huge achievement and 'Music' was a most excellent song, worthy of being a part of her storied career.

#21 - Chemical Heart (2002)
by Grinspoon

Let's go outside got nothing to hide for free,
Can't seem to see the forest from the trees...
