Top 300 Songs of the 2000s, #110 - 101

Mr. Gwyneth Paltrow and the rest of Coldplay.

Today's one of those 'special' days we were talking about, where you'll get two countdown posts instead of one. You will remember that these are the happiest days of your otherwise mundane life. I joke, I joke... ... ... ... or not. Moving right along, this is our last stop before THE top 100 songs of the 2000s, the best of the best. But there's still these ten songs to go, so let's meet the tracks that just missed out.

#110 - That's Not My Name (2008)
by The Ting Tings

They call me hell, they call me Stacey,
They call me her, they call me Jane...

This is how you make your debut... with a runaway pop smash hit that gets everyone singing along. It's even better if you're around a girl named Stacey or Jane. Or Her, if you happen to be in Germany or something.

#109 - Somebody Told Me (2004)
by The Killers

Somebody told me, you had a boyfriend,
Who looked like a girlfriend, that I had in February of last year...

This would also go into the 'how you make a debut' category.

#108 - Lisztomania (2009)
by Phoenix

So sentimental, not sentimental, no!

Oh, good. Not another debut song. They're good and all, but I didn't want to have to make every line about 'this is how you make a debut.' That would have gotten old. In fact, It got old during 'Somebody Told Me.'

#107 - Frontier Psychiatrist (2000)
by The Avalanches

What does that mean? That boy needs therapy.

This kind of counts as a debut song, doesn't it? Ergh. This is how you make a debut!!

#106 - Since U Been Gone (2005)
by Kelly Clarkson

Thanks to you, now I get,
What I want, Since you been gone...

Proof that a reality show contest winner could contribute something worthwhile to popular culture. Thanks Kelly.

#105 - The Scientist (2002)
by Coldplay

Come up to meet you, tell you I'm sorry,
You don't know how lovely you are...

#104 - Blind (2008)
by Hercules & Love Affair

And when I find myself alone,
I feel like I, I am blind...

Whoever thought it would be a good idea to use Antony Hegarty's vocals in a dance track deserves a medal. Or a knighthood. Yeah, a knighthood.

#103 - Rehab (2006)
by Amy Winehouse

I didn't get a lot in class,
But I know it don't come in a shot glass...

In what would become a case of life imitating art imitating life imitating art (and so on), 'Rehab' would have La Winehouse changing her tune to yes, yes, yes. The joke may be a couple of years old, but it still gets me everytime.

#102 - Signs (2008)
by Bloc Party

I see signs now all the time,
That you're not dead, you're sleeping...

#101 - The Story (2007)
by Brandi Carlile

It's true... I was made for you.

Guess what? This is the first official single Carlile released. You know what that means? THIS is how you make a debut.
