Top 300 Songs of the 2000s, #190 - 181

Robbie Williams.

Before we get to our next ten songs in the countdown, I thought it would be my civil duty to make clear what you should already know... Lady Gaga's dropping her new track 'Born This Way' tomorrow. As you would know, this means that the Gagapocalypse is imminent. The world won't be able to handle what we're about to be hit with, so I just wanted to say thanks for reading, it's been a lot of fun! Yeah, I'm kidding, but only a little. This has been hyped up to be one of the biggest moments in the history of pop music and I've learnt not to be against my Queen, uh, I mean Lady Gaga. Moving right along, here's ten awesome songs from the 2000s...

#190 - Why Do You Love Me? (2005)
by Garbage

And I am not as pretty as those girls in magazines,
I am rotten to my core if they're to be believed...

Shirley... Shirley, Shirley, Shirley. Garbage managed to maintain their popularity throughout the 2000s but still ended up going on hiatus after the release of Bleed Like Me. But that's all about to change since they're reportedly back in the studio working on new material. This excites me. This excites me very, very much.

#189 - Embrace (2008)
by Pnau ft. Ladyhawke

Running faster than my legs can take me,
Shouting louder than my lungs allow me...

Another act that should be releasing new music very soon, it's Pnau! Oh, and Ladyhawke too. She's pretty ace.

#188 - Girl and the Sea (2004)
by The Presets

When she was young we'd ask her what she'd like to be,
And she'd close her eyes and dream...

The debut release from one of Australia's greatest exports, 'Girl and the Sea' would kick off the career of one of the most exciting electronic acts in the industry. When you think of groups that have to release new music soon, The Presets should be one of the first names that come to mind.

#187 - Bootylicious (2001)
by Destiny's Child

Lookin' hot, smellin' good,
Groovin' like I'm from the hood...

It brought attention to a word which, up until the release of this song, wasn't given as much use as it rightly deserved; jelly. It asked us to shake our jelly... and shake it we did.

#186 - 1000 Miles (2002)
by Vanessa Carlton

If I could fall, into the sky,
Do you think time, would pass me by?

2002 was an important year for female singer-songwriters. Vanessa Carlton, Michelle Branch and Avril Lavigne all battled for chart dominance, with Carlton winning the initial battle, but sadly not the war. Branch stumbled with her second release, Avril maintained interest by selling out ('Girlfriend'), moving as far away from her initial message as possible and Carlton will go down in the history books as a one-hit wonder. Which is crappy.

#185 - Maneater (2006)
by Nelly Furtado

Everybody look at me, me,
I walk in the door you start screaming...

Speaking of selling out, ladies and gentlemen, I give you Nelly Furtado. I am of course kidding. Furtado filled Gwen Stefani's super-pop roll pretty well in 2006 and became more popular than ever before. Where is she now? Nobody knows.

#184 - Supreme (2000)
by Robbie Williams

When there's no love in town,
This new century keeps bringing you down...

#183 - Beautiful (2002)
by Christina Aguilera

Every day is so wonderful,
Then suddenly, it's hard to breathe

After the week she's had, I thought Christina could use a little pick-me-up, so I put her in the list. I am of course kidding, 'Beautiful' and the Stripped album as a whole moved Christina out of the teen pop star era and into music superstar territory... and made her the perfect target for those 'Britney's skanky sister' jokes. Those were the days.

#182 - Zero (2009)
by Yeah Yeah Yeahs

Was it the cure? Shellshock!
Was it the cure? Hope not!

#181 - TiK ToK (2009)
by Ke$ha

Now the party don't start till I walk in...

Nope... not even kidding. P.S. you love this song and everything Ke$ha represents. Enjoy!

We'll be back later kids, chill out with these ten and get in the mood for the next set. Don't worry, there'll be no more Ke$ha. Or will there? No... no there won't.
