Well, it's been over a month since our last edition of Music Video Mayhem, so I guess we'd better do something to rectify this situation. How? With a super-sized edition! We're pitting five clips against each other in a battle for the ages. The iconic Bjork teams once more with legendary director Michel Gondry to create 'Crystalline;' Kasabian unveils 'Switchblade Smiles;' 'Beyonce attempts to run the world with 'Best Thing I Never Had;' 'Calgary' sees Bon Iver delivering his indie best and finally we have one of the most amazing songs of 2011 in 'Somebody That I Used To Know.' Is Gotye's video worthy of the song? Let's find out.

Bjork - Crystalline

Initially, I was really unsure about how the video for 'Crystalline' made me feel. You don't invest in the story like you would in 'Army of Me' or 'Bachelorette.' It's not as cinematically beautiful as 'Joga.' It's not as mindboggling quirky and creative as 'Declare Independence' or 'Human Behaviour.' There isn't the same feeling from it that Bjork is years ahead of her contemporaries like the one you'd get after watching 'Hyperballad.' While 'Crystalline' can't match the previously mentioned videos, it finds its success through bringing in elements of what made those Gondry collaborations work. It's surreal, visually appealing and somehow perfect for the song. When the music breaks down and everything goes crazy... you know this is worthy of being a Bjork video. Make sure you check out the Biophilia iPhone app so you can play the 'Crystalline' video game!

#6 - Your Favourite Music Moments In Film

That's right, kiddies... we are off to the movies today! Our voyage of music listography continues and this entry will definitely go down as one of my favourites. Movies that successfully manage to incorporate a perfect, complimentary soundtrack into the film are the bestest. Now, this isn't a list of my favourite soundtracks. That's going to come a little further down the line (waaaay down the line). This is all about the song and the scene working together to create movie magic. Some are funny, some are sad, some are ridiculous and some will have you going, "lay off the crack." Whatever... all are amazing. Enjoy!

Good, but not great. Eminem's own 'Space Bound' was much better, but received little to no promotion. What's up with that? Mars' chorus is going to be stuck in my head all day though. Damn you, Bruno!

2000 - 2004. Aka, my high school years. Not so long ago, but enough to make me go... it's about time you made something of your life, isn't it? Isn't it?! But that daily struggle is another story. I was actually thinking about high school last night. Unfortunately it was a lot of thinking because I can't seem to remember a whole lot of it. Of course, some funny moments are still there, but the learning stuff? That gone now. That far away or something. As for the music, it was an interesting time for the industry. The reign of bubblegum pop was ending and rap was becoming the new dominant genre. Britney Spears was sane, kids were feeling all emo and Lady Gaga... was still in high school too. Yep, I've accomplished nothing. Here's some music from my high school years!

If you were to crash into Leona Lewis at full speed, would she bleed love? That was the first thing that popped into my head after hearing 'Collide,' the first taste of her upcoming third album. "Third album?" you say. Yeah... that sophomore slump hit Lewis and it hit her hard. Echo was released in 2009, led by power ballad, 'Happy,' which had no chance of matching the monster level 'Bleeding Love' did. Even her theme for Avatar couldn't match the overwhelming success that was 'My Heart Will Go On.' So it's been a rough couple of years. I think 'Collide' will change that. As far as dance-pop goes, this is quite good... mostly because Lewis has those great big booming vocals that just can't be matched. She also seems to be selling those big booming boobies these days too, if the photo above is anything to go by. Like you weren't already thinking it. Perverts.

Another returning band, another song that doesn't suck... the Chili Peppers are back! I'm enjoying 'The Adventures of Rain Dance Maggie' immensely. If the song had just a little bit more cowbell it would be perfection. New guitarist, Josh Klinghoffer, seems to fit in perfectly with the bands style, so there is hope for the band without John Frusciante. Well, we always knew that. I'm With You's release can't come soon enough.

Blink-182 unveiled their new single yesterday and it's... interesting, to say the least. Is this the mature approach to nu-punk? Maybe. Is this any good? Well, it's no 'Dammit' or 'Adam's Song,' but for the most part yes, this is good. The main thing is, it's not complete and utter scheisse, which can happen when a band's been away for a long period of time. You'd think they'd go with a more nostalgic, fun, distinctively 'Blink' single to usher in their return, but this approach works too. If you loved them before 'All The Small Things' sent them to the top of the charts, you're going to enjoy 'Up All Night' (after a few listens). If you loved them after 'All The Small Things,' chances are you won't be checking out Neighbourhood when it's released later in the year.

It's ok everyone, the party can start because Ke$ha just walked in. She's got that glitter on her eye, a bottle of Jack and she's doing shots off the hood of her car. Odds on vomit being on her dress? Key-Dollar Sign-Ha has been hard at work, reportedly writing 200 songs that she'll be able to choose from for her sophomore album. The other 187 will be featured in the next Britney, Pussycat Dolls and Adam Lambert albums. Apparently the new LP is going to be a more experimental effort, so I suppose what she means is that she's actually going to sing this time. Either that or she'll drop the C-bomb a couple of times and try not to use the words glitter, Jack or party in a song. The weird thing is... I love Ke$ha; she's dirrty Christina Aguilera to Lady Gaga's Britney.

Oh... you want me to say something about the song. It's painfully average and doesn't come close to matching the awesomeness of any of her previous releases. But, that's ok. 'Shots on the Hood of My Car' is likely a filler track that's leaked. Out of those 200 songs, there's got to be at least one potential 'Tik Tok' level smash hit. Don't forget, this is the chicky-babe that wrote 'Till The World Ends.'

Don't worry, I'm going to resist the urge to do what I really want to... post some amazing covers of 'All By Myself!' Instead, we're talking today about lead singers that need to break away from their bands and release some sweet, sweet solo material. Some of them may have already put an album or a song out and others might have never appeared without the support of their bandmates. All I know is, the next ten singers have got to break free. Now, I know it's been a couple of weeks since the last '10 And 1,' so I'd better explain what's the G-O again. It's likely that this ad annoys you. You're probably going to be even more annoyed when you discover that the singer is none other than former Superjesus rocker, Sarah McLeod. Yep. What.The? Sarah. Sarah, Sarah, Sarah. From the awesomeness that was the Superjesus, to your underappreciated solo effort, to your attempts at becoming an electro-diva... to this. Where's that signature growl? Where's the attitude? What's with ripping off any pop-rock 90's Australian number? Have you been hanging out with Bachelor Girl? Where is Bachelor Girl? So many questions.

#4 - List the Best Concerts and Music Festivals You've Seen

Hard Rock Calling - Hyde Park, 2010

Another week, another list from the amazing Music Listography journal I've been filling out. Of course, you might not find it that amazing... which is why I hope you go out, get the book and fill it out too! Then we can have a party where you come over, we drink nice beverages, eat some snacks and read our lists to each other and then laugh and laugh. Or not. Whatever. Today we'll be looking at my favourite concerts and festivals!

The Best Concerts I've Seen:

Pearl Jam - Brisbane Entertainment Centre (2006)

What made this so good? Front row tickets, claiming Eddie Vedder's pick (and then giving it to a friend who is his biggest fan) and almost three hours of amazing music. I also believe we spent Kings of Leon's entire support performance in the beer garden. All class. We stayed out 18 hours on the mean streets of Brisbane to get those tickets and to this day, still sing 'Memory' when we drive past the 'ole Ticketek. Good times.

Totes Inappropes

Totally inappropriate. When you actually pay attention to some songs, they can make you feel more uncomfortable than Ke$ha as she waits for her results to come back from the clinic. That was low. How about the awkwardness when Britney Spears eats a cheesecake that was for everyone?

Anyway, my sister and I were discussing songs that need to come with an M rating (or at least a PG) to protect children from how offensive they really are. Won't somebody please think of the children! That's not to say that these songs aren't awful. On occasion they're that inappropriate funny where you laugh and remember that if there is such a place, hell has a dark corner with your name on it. Sister (Sledge) and her husband seemed to agree that Exile's 'Kiss You All Over,' is a track that should be deemed as totes inappropes. At the age of five, they knew that the bad man shouldn't want to be kissing them all over... and over and again.

On the other hand, those of us born after 1985 can likely only associate 'Kiss You All Over' with one thing...

Is this really the best song off Suck it and See? 'Don't Sit Down 'Cause I've Moved Your Chair' was such a suave sound for the Monkeys (not those ones). On the other hand, 'The Hellcat Spangled Shalalala' takes a much more mature approach, even if the songs name is 'The Hellcat Spangled Shalalala.' Only the Arctic Monkeys could get away with such an awesomely ridiculous title.

Duck Sauce - Big Bad Wolf

It's hard for me to think that Armand Van Helden makes up half of Duck Sauce. 'Hear My Name,' 'My My My,' 'NYC Beat,' 'I Want Your Soul,' 'U Don't Know Me.' The list of his catchy, awesome dance tracks could go on and on. A-Trak himself is no slouch, delivering excellent remixes for Robyn, Yeah Yeah Yeahs and Kanye West. So what's with the uninspired music they choose to deliver when they come together? 'Barbra Streisand' was good for what it was, but 'Big Bad Wolf?' No. Just no. If you're into it, that's cool... enjoy it. But, uh... I'm on the side of the fence that says this blows.

Song of the Day - Lovesong

The Cure - Lovesong

Album: Disintegration (1989)

I'm pretty sure you know that 'Lovesong' is one of my favourite tracks. It came in at #2 on It's My Kind of Scene's Top 100 Songs of the 1980s and recently made our list of twenty songs that could be considered our all-time favourites. 'Lovesong' is The Cure at their best; somber, packed full of lyrical gold and dominated by Smith's emotional performance. There have been many covers over the years, but only two come close to matching the impact of the original. The Aching Heart remix of Tori Amos' version is fantastic and Adele's cover on 21 is... well, it's Adele. So it's amazing. For your listening pleasure, we've got all three. Enjoy 'Lovesong!'

The original and best American Idol, Kelly Clarkson, had a bit of leakage yesterday. That's song leakage boys and girls! One of the tracks from her fifth studio album (to be released in September), 'Let Me Down,' appeared on das internets, but it's being taken down left, right and center... so listen while you can! Who am I kidding, it'll keep popping up every five minutes now. K. Clarks cites Prince, Tina Turner, Sheryl Crow and Radiohead as influences for the upcoming LP and admits that some of the songs will venture into country territory. As for 'Let Me Down,' it's got the uber-catchy chorus and angsty lyrics we're used to, but the verses leave a lot to be desired. Here's hoping she's got one 'Since U Been Gone' up her sleeve when the album drops in September.

Gotye and Kimbra... a match made in musical heaven. Both are expected to release albums in August, so it's nice to hear something new from them, especially Gotye, since 'Eyes Wide Open' seems like it came out ages ago. Now, 'Somebody I Used To Know.' How can you not love this? It temporarily made me forget about Seeker Lover Keeper's 'Even Though I'm A Woman.' That's a big deal, people!

Thankfully, it's just as good and shows that Playing in the Shadows is going to be a really fun album. We've got to wait until September to hear that in its entirety, but expect to hear a whole lot more awesomeness before then.

Maybe not the last one... but you never know what you're going to face in space (yes, that's two sentences involving rhyme). They say in space no one can hear you scream. That's probably a good thing, because I'd be screaming along to these CD's just a little bit too loudly...

Seeker Lover Keeper - Seeker Lover Keeper

If ARIA wants to make a statement about their commitment to honouring the best in Australian music this year, this is the album that should walk away with Album of the Year. A big call to make this "early" in the year, but it's going to be pretty damn hard to top Seeker Lover Keeper's self-titled, incredible debut. You probably already know their story... three of Australia's best female singer-songwriters that have come together to collaborate on an album; Sarah Blasko, Holly Throsby and Sally Seltmann. Blasko is already a superstar to fans of quality music, winning ARIA Awards for her albums What the Sea Wants, The Sea Will Have and As Day Follows Night, including a Best Female Artist win in 2009. Throsby and Seltmann have been cultivating quite the following themselves over the years. Seltmann, in particular, made a huge impact as the co-writer for Feist's breakthrough hit, '1234.' Holly Throsby is a two-time ARIA nominee for Best Female Artist, but still remains vastly underrated. Consider Seeker Lover Keeper to be the big coming out party for these two ladies.

Like I said, Sarah Blasko is the superstar in this group, so it's no surprise that she takes lead on six of the twelve tracks here. First song, 'Bring Me Back' is a wonderful reminder of the brilliant songwriter she is and current single, 'Light All My Lights' and 'Rely On Me' showcase her ability to hold a listener in the palm of her hand as she works that vocal magic. On arguably the album's greatest track, 'Even Though I'm A Woman,' a song I've had on repeat all day (seriously... all day), Holly Throsby actually manages to steal the spotlight with what will go down as one of the finest songs of this year. Her delivery is exceptional. Written by Seltmann, 'Even Though I'm A Woman' outclasses her previous masterpiece, '1234,' in every way and should be a shoo-in for nominations galore from APRA. While her writing is definitely impressive, don't count out Sally's vocal performances either. 'On My Own' is a thing of devastating beauty and 'If The Night is Dark' cements her status as the artist you must watch for when next she drops a solo release.

If you love music with relatable lyrics, unique voices and powerful, understated performances, Seeker Lover Keeper is the album for you.

Oh Swedish pop... how good you are to us. Little Dragon continue to bring their A-game before the release of their new album, Ritual Union, which is out July 26. If you thought 'NightLight' was good, you're going to love the album's title track. Yukimi Nagano's vocals are at their soulful best here (at least the best I've heard since 'Twice.') Little Dragon can't come more highly recommended, so just listen to the track, embrace it, love it and then go get their album later in the month!
