Song of the Day - Astronaut

Amanda Palmer - Astronaut
Album: Who Killed Amanda Palmer? (2008)

So, "how was Amanda Palmer last night at the Old Museum," you ask? Amazing. Incredible. Life-affirming? Well, it was definitely the first two. Possibly the last one too. Despite some technical glitches, she powered through a fantastic set highlighted by 'Oasis,' 'Missed Me,' 'Coin-Operated Boy,' 'Runs In The Family,' 'Leeds United' and today's Song of the Day, 'Astronaut.' Alright, I'm not going to lie, every song was a highlight and a good chance to embrace the songs off her new Australian inspired album, Amanda Palmer Goes Down Under.

The acoustics in the Old Museum perfectly complimented Palmer's vocals, in my opinion much better live than recorded. She provided pleasant, witty banter with the crowd (which admittedly, at times, must have been a hard thing to do... crazy chick in the front-row, anyone?) which she had eating out of her hand. Her solo piano works came off even better than one could have hoped and songs with her full band were just as good. Mikelangelo, of Mikelangelo and The Black Sea Gentlemen fame, came very close to stealing the show with his rendition of 'Formidable Marinade' and entertained throughout the night whenever he graced the stage with his presence.

Ultimately though, there would be no topping Amanda F***ing Palmer. If you haven't seen her live, I can't recommend doing so, the next time she's in town, strong enough. By the way, go get her album/s!
