Last week I was in my other other Benz.

You're probably wondering why I chose the Kanye lyric above. Why? Because it shows what held Watch the Throne back from being the really amazing album it was meant to be; sub par rhymes, well below the standard of either artists' previous LPs. Kanye was on fire with My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy, but seemed willing to take a step back here. If the rumours be true and we can expect more from these two in 2012, they need to bring their A game. 'Otis' stood out as the most memorable track, the video was fantastic and... the less said about the screaming at the end, the better.

#58 - Civilization

Justice's much-anticipated sophomore album, Audio, Video Disco, had no way of living up to the insane expectations fans had for it. They were labelled the new Daft Punk after one (incredible) album and I honestly think that's the sound people were expecting from their new album. Instead, we got some fresh songs like 'Civilization' that separated Justice from their more established and creepily worshipped peers. This is a good thing. P.s. how brilliant is the video? Very brilliant... that's how brilliant it is. Brilliant.

#56 - Lost In Paradise

A lot may have changed about Evanescence over the years, but there are some constants. Amy Lee continues to develop her voice and stands as the greatest female rock vocalist in the industry right now. There's also her ability to write some fantastic ballads. Just like 'My Immortal' on Fallen and 'Good Enough' on The Open Door, 2011's Evanescence contained a stand-out rock ballad in the form of 'Lost In Paradise.' Release this as one of your singles!

#55 - Till The World Ends

In five years time when I'm doing a career retrospective on Britney Spears, I think I might call this her greatest song. 'Till The World Ends' is that good.

#54 - Map Of Tasmania

Amanda Palmer. You're just too much and too good. 'Map of Tasmania,' her sorta-kinda-not-so-sorta tongue-in-cheek song about shaving your cho-cha (thanks Missy!) ended up being one of the funnest, brightest and damn catchiest tracks of the year. Seeing the track live just made me love it more. When Palmer is touring near you, make sure you go see her... you won't regret it! 

#53 - Good Intent

They lurk around the opening in two's and three's.

Kimbra Johnson isn't afraid to experiment a little with her music. 'Settle Down' was quirky, 'Cameo Lover' was a throwback to 60s pop and third single, 'Good Intent,' allowed her to showcase the jazzy powerhouse within. As she appears to be able to do with every other genre she dabbles in, she pulls off 'Good Intent' exceptionally well, creating one of the finest pieces of pop you hopefully heard in 2011. Kimbra had a very good year in Australia and New Zealand. Can she crack the US and UK in 2012? I sure hope so.
