#80 - Money

I'd like to buy many things for myself but, like The Drums, I don't have any money, I don't have any money. Unlike me, The Drums should have plenty of money, but the sophomore slump hit them pretty hard. Labelled only two years ago as one of the great hopes for indie music with the success of their self-titled debut album, these NY rocksters lost some of the magic on Portamento. Luckily, 'Money' was, uh... right on the money. It's as catchy as 'Forever and Ever Amen' or 'Let's Go Surfing.' In fact, it's probably even more catchy. It's just such a shame the rest of their second LP couldn't match the greatness of it.

#78 - Shake

Everybody shake till your heart breaks.

Nobody expected Little Boots to move towards a darker electronic sound, yet I'm not hearing any complaints. 'Shake' is 'Stuck on Repeat' to the power of 100. Anticipation for her new album, due out in the first quarter of 2012, couldn't be any higher.

Kitty, Daisy and Lewis combine elements from many different retro genres, defying all expectations for what 'pop' music means today. They use this power to create tracks reeking of brilliance, like 'Don't Make A Fool Out Of Me.' Touring as part of the 2012 Big Day Out line-up will hopefully bring even more attention to one of the most exciting acts to break in 2011.

And at once I knew I was not magnificent...

There's always a surprise or two when the Grammy nominations are announced. This time, the most pleasant surprise was Bon Iver's nominations in the categories Record of the Year and Song of the Year for 'Holocene.' Could our favourite indie sensation pull off some massive upsets next month? I find it hard to think he'll derail Adele... but it would be a pretty sweet moment.

When Florence released 'What The Water Gave Me,' I thought it weird that she'd release such a quality track as the first single from Ceremonials. "What if she can't top it?!" I asked absolutely nobody. The thing is, she did top it... three more times. That's how many more Florence + The Machine songs will be making an appearance on the countdown.
