2011 Scene Awards - Best New Artist

Lana Del Rey, now in technicolour!

2011 was a pretty tough year to 'break it big' in the music industry. It seemed like everyone and I mean everyone was releasing an album this year. Well, Madonna didn't. Neither did Missy Elliott. Fine... not everyone then, but you know what I mean. New acts were competing with industry heavyweights, some of which were coming out with the best music we've ever heard from them. Due to their innovative sounds, the ten acts below emerged in 2011 and impressed us with their ability to draw attention away from their established contemporaries. These acts are your nominees for Best New Artist of 2011. Let's meet them!

Ball Park Music

Best New Artist

WINNERS: JAMES BLAKE and LANA DEL REY
Runner-Up: Emma Louise

Two times the winner! There was really no other choice in the matter. When I listen to James Blake and Lana Del Rey, I can't help but think that these are the two voices that will be amongst the most respected in music ten years from now. They're both garnering much deserved critical acclaim for the fantastic music they released in 2011 and will continue to do so throughout 2012. I can't wait to hear more and more from these two over the years! Randomly, they're also the featured artists on our last two songs of the day. Planned or some kind of beautiful symmetry? Neither... it's coincidence.
