Top 100 Songs of the 1970s, #60 - 51

Gloria Gaynor: She don't need no man.

The Carpenters gave us not one, but two 70s classics yesterday. If you liked that, you're going to love the next ten songs. If you didn't like it... you'll still love the next ten songs (and P.S. you're a crazy person!). We've got a lot of classic rock to work through today, plus what many consider to be the defining song of the disco (disco) era. Actually, there's two of those disco classics! So, what are we waiting for?! Oh... we're waiting for me to stop rambling on and on... and on and on and on. And on. Let's listen to some tunes!

#60 - Have You Ever Seen the Rain (1971)
by Creedence Cleerwater Revival

When it's over, so they say,
It'll rain a sunny day...

I did say there would be classic rock, didn't I?

#59 - Search and Destroy (1973)
by Iggy and The Stooges

Honey gotta help me please,
Somebody gotta save my soul...

If there's one person we probably don't highlight enough on here, it's Iggy Pop. Along with The Stooges, the man who seemingly doesn't own a shirt delivered unto us the very best in rock and some of the most iconic performances in the history of music.

#58 - Boys Don't Cry (1979)
by The Cure

I would say I'm sorry,
If I thought that it would change your mind...

The Cure just sneaks in at the end of the decade with one of their greatest hits, 'Boys Don't Cry.' I don't know if I love the song or the music video more.

#57 - Changes (1972)
by David Bowie

Turn and face the strange...

'Heroes' yesterday, 'Changes' today... what else does Bowie have up his sleeve that could make the countdown? That was a trick question; PSYCH! He's good, but 'Changes' was his best effort in the 70s.

#56 - Give A Little Bit (1977)
by Supertramp

See the man with the lonely eyes,
Oh, take his hand, you'll be surprised...

#55 - Let It Be (1970)
by The Beatles

There will be an answer, let it be...

The last great Beatles song. McCartney would leave the group shortly after the release of the single and the group would disband not long after.

#54 - Dancing Queen (1976)
by ABBA

Friday night and the lights are low,
Looking out for the place to go...

For your consideration; disco classic #1.

#53 - I Will Survive (1978)
by Gloria Gaynor

At first I was afraid, I was petrified,
Kept thinking I could never live without you by my side...

For your consideration; disco classic #2.

#52 - Hotel California (1977)
by The Eagles

I was thinking to myself,
This could be heaven or this could be hell...

I did say there would be classic rock, didn't I?

#51 - Your Song (1970)
by Elton John

I hope you don't mind that I put down in words,
How wonderful life is while you're in the world...

Elton John closes out the first half of the countdown and that means there's only fifty more songs to go! Stay tuned for the top 50 songs of the 1970s, starting tomorrow!
