Top 100 Songs of the 1970s, #100 - 91

The picture kind of says it all...

It's My Kind of Scene presents to you the first official post in the Top 100 Songs of the 1970s! Over the next couple of weeks we'll be looking at the songs that defined a decade which we all know and love. So what are we waiting for? Let's get to the music!

#100 - Lights (1978)
by Journey

So you think you're lonely?
Well my friend I'm lonely too...

Well before they were telling us not to stop believing, Journey were the new kids on the block (not those ones) gaining popularity from Steve Perry's superb vocals.

#99 - Baby, I Love Your Way (1975)
by Peter Frampton

I can see the sunset in your eyes,
Brown and grey and blue besides...

Ask anyone under the age of 35 what they think of Peter Frampton and the majority will say that he's the guy with the inflatable pig cannon on The Simpsons. That was indeed a funny episode. What were we talking about?

#98 - My Best Friend's Girl (1978)
by The Cars

She's my best friend's girl,
But she used to be mine...

#97 - Sultans of Swing (1979)
by Dire Straits

You check out Guitar George,
He knows all the chords...

#96 - If I Can't Have You (1977)
by Yvonne Elliman

If I can't have you, I don't want nobody baby...

We have a disco sighting! Rest assured, it won't be the last time we see a disco hit appear. Actually, that might scare you away. There's a possibility we'll see more disco songs.

#95 - Fire (1978)
by The Pointer Sisters

I say I don't like it,
But you know I'm a liar...

#94 - Roxanne (1978)
by The Police

You don't have to sell your body to the night...

'Roxanne' is even better when you're playing the drinking game that goes with it. It's the messiest way to spend an evening.

#93 - Rocket Man (1972)
by Elton John

Mars ain't the kind of place to raise your kids,
In fact it's cold as hell...

Elton John would go on to become the most popular male artist of the 70s and as we know now, one of the highest selling artist of all-time. He's another artist that you should already know will be making more appearances throughout the countdown.

#92 - Big Yellow Taxi (1970)
by Joni Mitchell

Don't it always seem to go,
That you don't know what you've got 'til it's gone...

#91 - Dust In The Wind (1977)
by Kansas

Same old song,
Just a drop of water in an endless sea...

'Dust In The Wind' is sadder than it has any right to be. And I do love a good sad song.

That's part uno down... stick around because it's only going to get groovier (that's 70s lingo)!
