This Chart Attack

Some new girl on the scene...

So it's been a long, long time since I did a post on the American, UK and Australian music charts. Last time, we looked at the top 10 songs in those three countries as well as Denmark. This time, we're going to be throwing New Zealand into the mix. With all the amazing music coming out of New Zealand lately (Zowie, The Naked and Famous, Kimbra etc.) you'd think that the Kiwi's would have the best chart out of the four. So let's start with them and find out...

Analysis:

* Britney Spears made her comeback from crazy town with Circus, but it looks like 'Hold It Against Me' is the official sign that her spot at the top of the charts is cemented in place... at least until the next meltdown. Which I hope doesn't happen, but you never bet against the crazy ones. #1 debuts in New Zealand and the USA and a top 5 place in Australia can only be taken as good news for the Spears camp. Hopefully we'll get some better songs on the album though...

* Rihanna and Bruno Mars can celebrate their placement on each of the four charts, including a #1 debut for Mars' 'Grenade' in the UK.

* Pop, rap, hip-hop and R&B continue to dominate charts around the world. Sadly, no rock songs place in the top ten in ANY country. W...T...F?

* New Zealand... you have so much good music coming out of your country and Six60 is the only act to place in the top 10? Just as bad... Australia! Guy Sebastian continues to be the only Australian artist to place in the top 10 despite all the fantastic local music out there right now. W...T...F redux?
