It begins! It's My Kind of Scene is proud to bring you its 90s countdown, highlighting 200 songs that defined a decade. Of course, this is all highly subjective, so I'd love to hear your thoughts on the songs I've picked and feel free to let me know what YOU think is missing. Alright, on with the show and all that jazz blah blah blah. Hold on to your hats, it's (hopefully) going to be one hell of a ride!
#200 - Baby Got Back (1992)
by Sir Mix-A-Lot
"Oh, my, god. Becky, look at her butt." If you've never had a good sing-along to 'Baby Got Back' then I don't know if you can say that you've really lived.
#199 - The Distance (1996)
by Cake
#198 - Breakfast at Tiffany's (1995)
by Deep Blue Something
I never realised how lame the music video was for 'Breakfast at Tiffany's. So many beautiful hairstyles. Still it's a great break-up song and very, very 90s pop-rock.
#197 - Intergalactic (1998)
by Beastie Boys
Amazing song, amazing video. The Beastie Boys were at their creative best in the 90s and 'Intergalactic' is a prime example of that.
#196 - All That She Wants (1993)
by Ace of Bass
#195 - Gangsta's Paradise (1995)
by Coolio
You couldn't escape 'Gansta's Paradise' when it came out mid-95 promoting the film Dangerous Minds. It went to #1 in virtually every country in the world and ended up topping the year-end charts in Australia and the USA.
#194 - Canned Heat (1999)
by Jamiroquai
If you've seen Napoleon Dynamite then it's pretty hard to not think of the amazing dance scene when listening to 'Canned Heat.' Jamiroquai, much like the Beastie Boys, were at their best during the 90s, consistently putting out fun dance tracks with perfect music videos.
#193 - I See You Baby (Fatboy Slim Remix) (1999)
by Groove Armada
Things you don't think about when you're 12 - who's more messed up, the creepy security guard or the people that are more than happy to strip off and dance for his entertainment?
#192 - Touch It (1998)
by Monifah
#191 - Guerilla Radio (1999)
by Rage Against the Machine
Rage Against the Machine were to the 90s as System of A Down were to the noughties (I really hate that expression); the go-to band for politically charged, thoughtful metal. You'll never see drunk thirty-somethings mosh harder to a song at dirty pubs than 'Guerilla Radio.'
Ten down... 190 to go! I'm going to be keeping it pretty short and sweet until we reach the top 100. I've got free time but not THAT much free time. Stay tuned, there's plenty more to come!
