Top 200 Songs of the 1990s, #100 - 91

I wish I could say it's been so long without a post because I've been devoting so much time and thought to this next installment of the countdown... but I can't. No internet at home and an inability to sit next to creepers looking at porn in the internet cafe means no posts for you, dear readers (I know the 3 of you must be taking this really hard). Luckily, I've been granted access to a friend's interweb connection just so I can bring you more of the best countdown you'll read EVER... disclosure - that statement can not be guaranteed.

Alright, snap back to reality (oh, there goes gravity?), we are finally here kids - the top 100! Are you ready for it? Am I ready for it? Yes, yes I am. I won't, nay, I can't keep you waiting any longer, so here... we.... go!

#100 - Erase/Rewind (1999)

Nina Persson's ethereal vocals elevate this song to pop greatness. 'Erase/Rewind' is one of two Cardigans songs to place on the list. Can you guess what the other one's going to be?

#99 - I Alone (1994)

Bad, bad, bad, bad, bad, bad, BAD video. Never believe someone when they tell you that a rat's tail is a good idea for your hairstyle. What the hell? With that out of the way, we can focus on the song which thankfully is full of awesome. Even if it is pretty much Christian rock.

#98 - A Girl Like You (1994)

How did Edwyn Collins only manage one-hit? 'A Girl Like You' lacked the general cheese-factor of a lot of one-hit wonders (see 'Mambo #5,') and was, dare I say, a REALLY good song. It was good enough for the Empire Records soundtrack... and the Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle one. Maybe ignore that last part.

'Jeremy' would mark the real beginning of Pearl Jam, placing them at the top of the grunge heap. MTV, still playing music at the time, gave the song the Video of the Year Award at the VMAs, when winning one of them actually meant something.

#95 - Don't Look Back In Anger (1996)

Oasis, you used to be so good. Then you split up and got back together and split up and got back together and split up. I can't keep up, but I know that you were amazing in the 90s and you blew hard in the 2000s.

#94 - Ready or Not (1996)

Lauryn Hill, future Haitian president Wyclef Jean and Pras Michael aka The Fugees were like a cool version of the Black Eyed Peas. Wait, they were like what the BEP used to be before Fergie joined and Will.I.Am sold his soul to the devil in exchange for superstardom. 'Ready or Not' was taken off The Fugees' second, critically acclaimed album, The Score and spent two weeks at #1 in the UK. Fun fact - President Obama is a big fan of the song and if he's a fan, I'm a fan.

#93 - Angel (1998)

Piano ballads used to be super cool. 'Angel' is one of the best piano ballads. So it's super cool. It was one of the tracks from the soundtrack to City of Angels, a film I've never seen starring Meg Ryan and Nicholas Cage (in the 90s, both were bankable movie stars. I know, weird). 'Angel' is the first of three songs from that album to be included in the top 100, who knows when the next one will appear.

#92 - Iris (1998)

Well... that wasn't a long wait at all was it. 'Iris,' was the second song released from the City of Angels soundtrack and became the most successful. It also became the biggest commercial hit for the Goo Goo Dolls and they're probably still living off royalties from it. Good on them.

#91 - Pepper (1996)

Only in the 90s could a band with the name Butthole Surfers achieve the popularity that the, uh, Butthole Surfers did.
