This countdown keeps truckin' on... today we've got the big debuts of some industry heavyweights in U2 and Radiohead. Plus, we need at least a couple of one-hit wonders, so I'm going to give you three. You're welcome.
#130 - Smooth (1999)
by Santana ft. Rob Thomas
#129 - Addicted to Bass (1998)
by Josh Abrahams ft. Amiel
International listeners weren't treated to 'Addicted to Bass' until 2002, but in Australia it was a well and truly 90s classic, instantly becoming one of the best dance tracks of the decade. Even though Amiel went on to have limited success, you can count this as one-hit wonder #1 on today's list thanks to Josh Abrahams.
#128 - Buy Me A Pony (1996)
by Spiderbait
Another JJJ Hottest 100 #1, 'Buy Me A Pony' tore up alternative radio and, due mostly to the awesomeness of the music video, got a whole lot of play on music channels too.
#127 - Semi-Charmed Life (1997)
by Third Eye Blind
One-hit wonder #2....
#126 - Save Tonight (1997)
by Eagle Eye Cherry
... and #3! 'Save Tonight' = Pub tuuuuune!!! It's pretty much a requirement that if you play in a pub band you will know this song.
#125 - Down By The Water (1995)
by PJ Harvey
#124 - Hold Me, Thrill Me, Kiss Me, Kill Me (1995)
by U2
This is the second song on the Top 200 that was released from the Batman Forever soundtrack (with the first being 'Kiss From A Rose'). How did such a crappy movie have such good songs?
#123 - Zero (1996)
by Smashing Pumpkins
There's is something incredibly cool about the way Corgan bellows, "wanna go for a ride?"
#122 - Vow (1995)
by Garbage
#121 - Black Star (1995)
by Radiohead
Boys and girls, I give you Radiohead. 'Black Star,' off '95s The Bends, is like most of their other works a lyrical masterpiece. Try to come up with an explanation for this... is the girl Yorke sings of a drug addict? Does she have a mental condition he can't handle? Or is it just about a failed relationship? If the term Black Star is a metaphor, than what does it mean? So many questions. Great track that always manages to make me a little depressed... in a good way.
