What About Love
by Passerine
Welcome to 2014! Just like last January, we're going to be running Australian Music Month on the blog throughout this month, putting the focus on our favourite local music makers. You know who one of our favourite local music makers is? Passerine. This Melbourne electronic outfit, featuring the smooth vocals of Phoebe Dubar, released one of our favourite dance tracks of 2013, 'Ready To Begin'. With their new song, 'What About Love', they move in a more chilled direction with some trip hop influences shining through.
In what should come as no surprise for a song titled 'What About Love', Dubar's lyrics are filled with dreamy romanticism. "What about the future, I've seen it in the stars above, what about serendipity, what about, what about happiness, I've seen it in the blue sky above, what about peace, what about hope, what about love." It's a (dare I say) gorgeous track, from the opening strings right through to the final beats. If you're looking for an addition to your lazy Sundays chill out playlist, you've found it. 'What About Love' kicks off 2014 in classy electro style. I'm liking it.
Matt Bond gives 'What About Love' three and a half Ellie Goulding heads out of five...
Passerine are expected to release a new EP in 2014 featuring 'What About Love'. It's going to be one to keep an eye out for. If you're lucky enough to be in Melbourne, you should head on down to The Espy on January 16 to catch Passerine live! I'm sure you'll get to hear a whole bunch of awesome, upcoming EP tracks.
