Music Video Mayhem - Battle Royale

Washington!

Once again, it's been far too long since there's been some sweet, sweet music video mayhem here on It's My Kind of Scene. How do we make up for it? With a super-sized edition, pitting some of music's biggest stars in a battle for the ages! So, who's stepping into the ring today? Lady Gaga pits 'You and I' against the new Red Hot Chili Peppers' clip, 'The Adventures of Rain Dance Maggie;' Jay-Z and Kanye West deliver unto us 'Otis;' Bon Iver has debuted the video for your Song of the Day, 'Holocene;' Aussie favourite, Washington, is back with 'Holy Moses' and The Kooks compete with 'Junk of the Heart.' Six new videos, but which one's the best? Let's find out!

Red Hot Chili Peppers - The Adventures of Rain Dance Maggie

You can say it... this is pretty disappointing. There's two major problems I have with the promo for 'The Adventures of Rain Dance Maggie.' 1. The completely unoriginal concept. Ripping off U2? You can do a lot better. Rip off someone from Sweden! That's what all the cool kids are doing. But seriously, expectations were high given how unexpectedly awesome the song is and given the band's history for delivering killer clips for their returning singles ('Scar Tissue,' 'By The Way,' 'Dani California'), you can't help but wonder what they were thinking here. 2. Anthony Kiedis' hair. That is all.

Washington - Holy Moses

Now THIS is exciting. Megan Washington is back and she's ready to take on the world! Everything about this is a win; the dancing, the exploding men... the girl playing a freaking kazoo! That last one is my favourite. You just don't hear enough kazoo these days. Australia is finally producing videos that can compete with the best America and the UK can offer and I couldn't be happier. Oh, and you can save the unnecessary Gaga comparisons. The quirky nature of the clip, the make-up... all to be expected from Ms. Washington. She's looking mighty fine by the way. Just in case you didn't notice.

Jay-Z and Kanye West - Otis

I still don't get the screaming at the end, but the video has made me like 'Otis' even more. There's nothing more you can ask for a video to do. What is up with the random, two second Aziz Ansari cameo?

Bon Iver - Holocene

Linking all of the videos so far is that they're all beautifully shot. Bon Iver's 'Holocene' is THE most beautifully shot. Don't you want to go to Iceland? Who wants to come to Iceland with me? There's waterfalls and icebergs and mountains that reflect beautifully into still lakes and there's... rocks and stuff. Hang on. Where are that kids parents? He's been out all day attacking water with rocks and sticks and trying to capture hawks (or eagles, whatever) and there's icebergs and he's only got a cardigan on. That's neglect. Still, beautiful video.

The Kooks - Junk of the Heart

Again; good song, disappointing video. Well, they can't all be good, can they?

Lady Gaga - You and I

'You and I' succeeds mostly in confirming what we already knew... that Lady Gaga is a mermaid, sent from the ocean depths to save us from mediocrity. For some of you, it probably confirmed that she's a dude. Jerks. So, I'm over my initial 'this is the best video ever' reaction and instead I'm settling with 'this is an awesome video.' Still good, right? Definitely her best video since 'Telephone' and it's the perfect fit for the song (unlike 'The Edge of Glory).

WINNER - WASHINGTON

'You and I' is amazing, but 'Holy Moses' exceeds all expectations. Washington's time is now!
