Everybody comes to Dollywood... |
Well, it's a couple of days late... but here's the first part of our all country countdown! We're kicking things off in style with a ladies only edition, featuring some of the biggest names in country music. What are we waiting for? Nothing! Let's hear some depressing music...
#25 - A Place Called Home (2002)
by Kim Richey
If you're a fan of the show Angel, you should already be familiar with the vastly underrated Kim Richey. Hearing 'A Place Called Home' should also send you into 'wallowing in sadness' mode since the song is synonymous with the death of one of the show's best characters. But enough about TV! Listen and love the beautiful music of Kim Richey.
Best Line: "Someday I'll go where there ain't no rain or snow, 'Til then, I travel alone."
#24 - She's Got You (1962)
by Patsy Cline
There's always some new drama with Patsy Cline. Drama, drama, drama. It's always man trouble too. Oh, he's run off with some other girl? Again? At least it makes for good music. Sad, sad music. The best kind.
Best Line: "I've got your memory, or has it got me?"
#23 - You Were Mine (1997)
by Dixie Chicks
Talk about devastating. Maybe this countdown was a bad idea... I'm actually starting to feel down on life listening to these songs one after the other. Are you? You're welcome. Anyway, 'You Were Mine' is the perfect song. Natalie Maines delivers crushing blow after crushing blow with her vocals and the words from the Erwin sisters capture the pain they felt when they were young as their parents divorced. There's still much more to come from these lovely ladies on this countdown, but this remains one of their finest moments.
Best Lines: "I can give you two good reasons, To show you love's not blind. He's two and she's four and you know they adore you. So how can I tell them you've changed your mind?"
#22 - I'm Gone (2001)
by Alison Krauss and Union Station
Did you know that Alison Krauss has one more Grammy awards (26) than any other female artist? Do you want to know why? Because she's kinda amazing. She captures the best of country music with each new album and big-time collaboration. But nothing can top her work with Union Station. Except for that one song with Brad Paisley that we just might here later on...
Best Line: "Who can say, if it's right or wrong, I've waited for you too long."
#21 - It's All Wrong But It's All Right (1978)
by Dolly Parton
Finally, a song that's not going to send you into a sad face coma! The Queen of Country and princess of Dollywood is the most successful country artist of all time. With songs like 'It's All Wrong But It's All Right,' it's easy to see why. One of country music's living legends closes out our first installment with her skankiest song. That's right, I said it. Don't pretend you weren't thinking it.
Best Lines: "Hello, are you free tonight? I like your looks, I love your smile."
