200th Post Spectacular...

Somehow I've maintained an interest in this little project that's lasted for 200 posts now, and I just wanted to say I'm so sorry for all the junk you've had to read on here. Haha, nah... I'm awesome and you love it! So I've been trying to think of something to do to mark my 200th post on It's My Kind of Scene and I've come up with nothing. Pretty spectacular, right? Wrong. In light of this revelation I'm going to rename the post to 200th Post Spectacular. Much better.

... ... ... ... ... Are you still here? Ergh. Alright, November marks Thanksgiving in North America, a time to give thanks for all the wonderful things that make your life better than people that are worse off than you (or something like that). Drawing inspiration from Thanksgiving, how about we talk about music related goodness that we give thanks for in 2010? I thought you'd like that. What should we be thankful for then? Let's find out...

200th Post Spectacular
We Give Thanks...

Kanye West

You may have noticed this mentioned already several times throughout the year, but we really should give thanks to Kanye for getting his shit together in 2010. Not that he hasn't offered us some quality music in the past, but it seemed like he couldn't do that without stumbling down a road previously blocked off by Michael Jackson's craziness. Then Taylor-Gate happened at last year's VMAs and it seemed like he took stock of his life and made some drastic changes. So far this year, we've only had the chance to judge the man on his musical merits and they have been good... very good. For this, we give thanks.

Robyn

Robyn will have released her third album for 2010 by the end of the month. Her Body Talk series has given us some of the catchiest, innovative and beautiful pop music we've heard in quite some time and for this, we give thanks.

The Rise of Folk-Pop

Mumford & Sons, Angus & Julia Stone, Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros, Laura Marling, The Verses... if you're young, pretty and make music that sounds like it's from the 70s (non-disco of course) then now is your time to shine!

WWLGD?

Or, What Would Lady Gaga Do? Which is something to give thanks for AND to curse. When established artists think, "what would Lady Gaga do?" it's a recipe for disaster. See Aguilera, C. That's because they're just trying to be Gaga. When a new artist like Zowie or Kimbra thinks, "what would Lady Gaga do?" it's more like they're taking inspiration from what one could argue are her ideals. Being innovative, independent and in complete control of their music and lives. Or this could just be complete crap and an excuse to say I'm thankful for Lady Gaga.

Deserving Winners

Angus & Julia Stone at the ARIAS, Lady Gaga at the VMAs, Florence + The Machine at the BRIT Awards, The XX winning the Mercury Music Prize. For this, we should be thankful. As for the Grammys... at least the Black Eyed Peas didn't win any of the major awards. For this, we should be truly thankful.

So... what are you thankful for kiddies?
