So Monday morning was most like any other morning except for two things, my lover was away and when I was getting ready to ride to work on my bicycle, I happened to put on different boots than usual.


I love riding to work, especially early in the morning because there’s little traffic on the road and it’s blissfully quiet. I usually feel powerful and free!

But in the back of my mind I’m always worried that someone will knock me off my bike and well, it happened. Like a slow motion movie a guy pulling out of a side street hit my back wheel propelling my into the bitumen. I’m broken but someday soon, I’ll be put back together…

Then after my hospital trip and all the “hoo-haa” that goes with it I was released but had to go back to work to get my belongings. When I walked in, they’d all been talking about the boy who got into an accident and couldn’t come to work… It was I...

Then I was left alone to recover at home by myself. No one to look after me… Eventually my lover came home from his trip; the first words from his mouth were “What’s for dinner? We have sexy times?” then with no regard for my welfare he “accidently” kept bumping into my injuries. How cold, how insensitive…

If only I’d worn my regular boots maybe this mess would never have happened?

No. No I haven't forgotten that we're down to the two most important posts of our 60s countdown. Also, I'm not drawing it out, leaving you hanging to build suspense. It's just been a big week and I've been dealing with some business (pronounced bid-ness). All fears, concerns and general feelings of anxiousness can now disappear because the countdown is back! We're up to the penultimate edition, so you know it's going to be good... very good. Here are ten songs that narrowly missed out on making the top 10 song of the 1960s.

#20 - I Wanna Be Your Dog (1969)

Much like the 80s ended by ushering in the era of 90s grunge, a reaction to overproduced 80s trash, the 60s ended with the birth of punk, rock music's defining sub-genre of the 1970s which itself could be viewed as a direct response to the sugary, sweet bubblegum pop of the 60s and it's delicious naivety. Leading music in this exciting new direction as the decade came to a close was the iconic Iggy Pop with The Stooges. Before imploding they were producing music that no one had dared to do. Music like 'I Wanna Be Your Dog.'

#40 - Suspicious Minds (1969)

The King scored his 17th and final US #1 with the song that I regard as his greatest, 'Suspicious Minds.' You may remember that I've posted before about my lack of interest in Elvis' music, but respect for his legacy. This would be one of the few songs he recorded that I'll actually listen to... and enjoy. As you can tell from the video, this came out during Presley's sweatier years.

#39 - Where Did Our Love Go? (1964)

From Elvis' final #1, to The Supremes first. 'Where Did Our Love Go?' was their first chart topping success, the first of five in a row and twelve in total. Not too shabby, right? What... you don't think so? How many #1 singles have you had? That's what I thought. Many reviewers attributed the track's success to it's ability to capture the American public's loss of optimism as the sixties went by.
