Gorillaz ft. Andre 3000 and James Murphy - DoYaThing
The Gorillaz led 'DoYaThing' has finally been released as the 2012 Converse '3 Artists, 1 Song' track and as expected, a large chunk of the internets is going ca-ray-zay over it. It really doesn't do much for me, which is fine because I didn't have high expectations. With his most recent collaboration on 'Dedication To My Ex' in mind, Andre 3000 having his name attached already lowered expectations for 'DoYaThing' and he turns in another rushed and lazy rap that has me wondering what's up with an artist who used to be one half of the most exciting acts in music. As a non-fan of LCD Soundsystem (sorry!), James Murphy's presence does nothing for me either. The Gorillaz continue to deliver, but that's to be expected, right? At least we can all agree that 'DoYaThing' is a marked improvement over the last Converse initiative song. Kid Cudi's track with Best Coast and Vampire Weekend was a major letdown after 'My Drive Thru;' the manic, fun and memorable collaboration between N.E.R.D, Santigold and Julian Casablancas. Here's hoping that should '3 Artists, 1 Song' return in 2013, Converse chases after acts that can bounce off each other as well as the 'My Drive Thru' team. Or... just bring N.E.R.D, Santigold and Julian Casablancas back again!
