Music the Manipulator

"I know an amazing Journey cover band."

I watch a lot of TV. Some would say I watch too much TV. Some would say I watch too much crappy TV. Not me though. I love my TV like I love my Britney Spears... trashy. Currently I'm investing my time in Grey's Anatomy, Glee, 30 Rock, 90210, Gossip Girl, The Vampire Diaries, Desperate Housewives, Dexter, Law & Order: SVU, South Park and Family Guy. I'm also going to start watching Parks and Recreation, because I love me some Amy Poehler. So I'm not exactly watching the Discovery Channel (or any form of news/current affairs program). But I'm cool with that, mostly because I get to hear some sweet music while I'm watching.

Generally every major moment in a television drama is accompanied by a song that will get more of an emotion out of you than the actual scene itself. Television shows have used music to manipulate the audience's emotions for years, but never as well as some of the TV shows from the past decade. What shows use music the best? In my opinion Six Feet Under, Scrubs and Grey's Anatomy. Given the nature of the show, Glee seems like such an obvious choice, but this season I've found myself wishing they'd skip through the majority of the songs and advance the plot a bit more (and give us more Sue Sylvester!). Posted below are some great music moments in recent TV history. If you haven't seen the final scene of Six Feet Under, you might not want to watch that one. What show do you think uses music the best?

Sia - Breathe Me
Six Feet Under

Greg Laswell - Off I Go
Grey's Anatomy

Snow Patrol - Chasing Cars
Grey's Anatomy

Polyphonic Spree - Reach For the Sun
Scrubs

Les Miserables - I Dreamed A Dream
Glee
