Would you describe yourself as an avid lover or music? I mean, you've found your way to this obscure little corner of the internet, so you either have a big love of all things music or you made that mistake so many people seem to where they think they're clicking a link to that kinky porn scene they're so eager to see and then BAM! you're here. Not so kinky... sorry? But if you find yourself in that first group and you have that love of music that can give you a genuine case of the 'feels' then you've come to the right place because here we have 'Colours' from Melbourne's Big Smoke.


"I have no colours to show, because everyone here is everyone I know." 'Colours' is one mighty fine slice of acoustic folk that finds itself ridiculously romantic, without the extra side of cheese that can come with the label. Much of that has to do with Adrian Slattery's delivery of the words that make you want nothing more than for him to get the dance his heart desires. The arrangement of the track keeps your focus on the words and Slattery's voice, as it should, but the guitar work is quite smooth too. Georgia Fair's Ben Riley and Jordan Wilson are special guest stars on the track, with Riley's electric guitar really making an impact. 'Colours' is a accompanied by a video comprised of clips from classic Hollywood films where the gal gets her fella and vice-verse. It's surprisingly effective and I only say surprisingly because so many of these mashed-up, out of copyright videos can get your eyes rolling very quickly. But this right here is actually really fitting as it goes with the atmosphere Big Smoke have built into the track that takes a somewhat old fashioned view of courtship. All the romantics out there are going to fill the strings of your little tickers being pulled at as the video makes its way to the end. 


I'm sure all avid lovers of music have experienced those moments where they hear a song for the first time and it's like a light-switch has been turned on. It's like 'CLICK' I get this, it gets me and everything makes sense in the world for a couple of minutes. You can forget about everything and just focus on something that makes you feel warm and content, as if you don't have a care in the world. You know what I'm talking about. It might not happen as much as you'd like, but when it does it's pretty much the best feeling in the world. I got that feeling from Big Smoke's 'Colours'. Did you?
