New Music Monday #18

The Presets!

Ghosts
by The Presets
Album: Pacifica (7 September, 2012)

The Presets release another single that's guaranteed to divide their fans into the camps of 'This Track Is Awesome' and 'But This Track Isn't Club Friendly And Won't Be Played Every Hour On Nova.' This is a good thing. If you're a real fan of The Presets, 'Ghosts' is going to work its way into your head and make your anticipation for the release of Pacifica hit new highs. Consider this their new 'If I Know You;' relaxed, engaging and 100% awesome. Pacifica is coming!

Triumphant (Get 'Em)
by Mariah Carey ft. Rick Ross and Meek Mill

I’m wondering what else last week could possibly have been more boring than this…nope, nothing. There was the Homebake lineup announcement, but that only lasted 30 seconds or so. This is it then. Officially the most boring four minutes and nine seconds of my whole week.

Yet Again
by Grizzly Bear
Album: Shields (September 18, 2012)

If you’re a Grizzly Bear fan, eagerly awaiting the release of Shields in mid-September, then you’re going to love this. Really love this. If you’re not a fan of Grizzly Bear, you’re going to be bored at the two and a half minute mark and this isn’t going to be the song to convince you of their talent. If you’ve never heard of Grizzly Bear, this is a nice introduction. Gentle gorgeous harmonies, a sweet melody and then a well constructed mess and confrontation at the end, it lends itself to Radiohead (when Radiohead aren’t being completely self-indulgent) which Grizzly Bear could possibly also become, in a few albums time. Until then, this is nice.

Jo Michelmore gives 'Yet Again' three Karen O's out of five...

NEW MUSIC VIDEO OF THE WEEK

Slow Burn
by The Medics
Album: Foundations (2012)

The Medics are earning themselves quite the reputation for delivering intriguing music clips that perfectly compliment the singles they are promoting. 'Griffin' was beautifully shot, undoubtedly earning itself a nomination in our end of year Scene Awards for Best Video. New single 'Slow Burn' deserves just as much applause for its imagery that makes the experience of listening to the track even better. That's what a great music video is meant to do, right?
