2012 Preview - New Year, New Music

Happy New Year!!! We're only one day into 2012, but I'm confident in saying that this year is going to be full of fantastic new music from some of our favourite superstars. Everyone's going to have to bring their A-game if they plan on making us forget about how brilliant 2011 was, but when you look at the roster assembled below you'll see a group of artists that only know how to deliver the goods. We've also got two exciting debuts from Lana Del Rey and Emeli Sande to be released in January and February, so 2012 is off to a banging start! Who are we definitely going to hear albums from this year? Who might we hear new music from? Who do I want to hear new music from? Find out below!

Albums We Will Hear in 2012:

Born To Die
by Lana Del Rey (Release date: 31/1/12)

Lana Del Rey is getting in early, releasing her debut album at the end of this month. Can she live up to the ridiculous levels of hype that she's garnered through tracks like 'Video Games' and 'Born to Die?' We'll find out soon enough.

Our Version Of Events
by Emeli Sande (Release date: 13/2/12)

Start The Revolution Without Me
by Kaiser Chiefs (Release date: 6/3/12)

What We Saw From The Cheap Seats
by Regina Spektor (Release date: 12/5/12)

Master Of My Make Believe
by Santigold (Release date: 2nd quarter)

Untitled 5th Studio Album
by Garbage (Release date: unknown)

If I was to call an album my most anticipated for the year, this would be it. I'll always be optimistic about new Garbage, but I've got a feeling their new record is going to be the greatest LP they've ever produced. The album has reportedly been mastered already, so now all they have to do is release the first single!

Untitled 4th Studio Album
by Franz Ferdinand (Release date: unknown)

Untitled 2nd Studio Album
by Mumford and Sons (Release date: unknown)

Untitled 6th Studio Album
by No Doubt (Release date: unknown)

Untitled 6th Studio Album
by Muse (Release date: 4th quarter)

We're also pretty psyched about new releases from MGMT, Goldfrapp, The Killers, Rufus Wainwright, Phoenix, Janelle Monae, Madonna, Fiona Apple, The Knife, Nelly Furtado and The xx. 2012... it's going to be a great year for music fans!

Albums We Will Hopefully Hear in 2012:

Untitled 10th Studio Album
by Pearl Jam

Red Hot Chili Peppers and Foo Fighters were the kings of rock in 2011 and 2012 will hopefully propel Pearl Jam back to the top of the rock pack. Get your post-grunge rock on, kids!

Untitled 2nd Studio Album
by The Avalanches

Waiting over ten years to release a new album? Who do you think you are, Kate Bush or something? Much like Kate Bush though, you know the quality of a new Avalanches album is going to be so very, very good. Well, it had better be.

Untitled 3rd Studio Album
by The Presets

Detox
by Dr. Dre

Even though it's the new Chinese Democracy, I still find myself waiting patiently for Dre to FINALLY release Detox.

Untitled 3rd (4th!) Studio Album
by Lady Gaga

LGG's just got to release a follow up to Born This Way, if only so she can secure her fourth nomination in a row for Album of the Year at the Grammys. The big question though is what direction she'll take her next LP in. Will it be closer to the glorious music found on The Fame or push the boundaries of pop music even further?

Albums I Want To Hear In 2012:

8th Studio Album
by Dixie Chicks

Where for art thou, gorgeous country sirens? You release your defining album, Taking the Long Way, win the three biggest Grammy Awards (Best Album, Song of the Year, Record of the Year) and then John Wayne it into the sunset. I'm assuming this was on horseback. We need a huge crossover country album in 2012 and you're just the gals to put it out.

4th Studio Album
by Sarah Blasko

Methinks S.Blasko's next album will be the one that finally sees her break it big internationally. Hit prediction: It will also be her first #1 album on the ARIA charts. She was surely writing for herself while touring with Seeker Lover Keeper, so there's a chance this could happen, with something new hitting the radio at the end of the year.

2nd Studio Album
by The Verses

I would also happily except a fourth album from Killing Heidi. Don't pretend you wouldn't love it! Anyway, Ella and Jesse Hooper's acoustic duo, The Verses, should make some noise about a follow up to their swell debut, Seasons.

Block Party
by Missy Elliott

MISSSSSSAAAAY! The Queen of Rap is truly missed and now's the time for her to drop her highly anticipated 7th album, Block Party. Don't let Nicki Minaj steal your crown!

2nd Studio Albums
from Kimbra and Seeker Lover Keeper

Kimbra and SLK provided our ears with what we named our top two albums of 2011. It's highly unlikely that Seeker Lover Keeper will band together once more in time for a 2012 release, but one can dream... right? There's a much better chance of hearing sweet new music from our 2011 Woman of the Year though. Kimbra's facebook has shown over the past couple of months that she's been writing and in the studio so who knows what we can expect from her. Well we do know what we can expect... awesomeness!
