Random Thoughts: Grammy Predictions
So... have you seen the Grammy nominations? Some ranged from pleasantly surprising (Arcade Fire for Album of the Year) to shocking (Katy Perry for Album of the Year). Some were just mind boggling (Glee's version of 'Don't Stop Believing' nominated for Best Pop Performance by a Duo or Group) and seemed like the Grammy's attempting to get more viewers tuning in (Justin Bieber up for best artist?). Eminem seems likely to dominate with his leading 10 nominations, followed by Jay-Z, The Gaga and Lady Antebellum, each nominated 6 times. Unfortunately in news that is likely to devastate millions of tweens (and me)... Ke$ha got no love. $hame on you Grammy voters. $hame. Let's get to the predicting.
Album of the Year:
Arcade Fire - The Suburbs
Eminem - Recovery
Lady Antebellum - Need You Now
Lady Gaga - The Fame Monster
Katy Perry - Teenage Dream
Seriously, Katy Perry? While I would understand a Song of the Year nomination for 'California Gurls' based on its monster success (which it didn't get), I just can't comprehend an album of the year nod. Congrats to Gaga's second nomination in as many years and a big woot woot to Arcade Fire. Now that we've spoken about who WON'T be winning... this is between Eminem and Lady Antebellum. Many would be like, Lady who now? Americans love their country and Lady Antebellum had one of the highest selling albums this year. If Taylor Swift hadn't won last year, I'd say they were the strongest contenders. But Swift did win so...
Who Will Win: Eminem
Who Should Win: Arcade Fire
Record of the Year:
B.o.B ft. Bruno Mars - 'Nothin' On You'
Eminem ft. Rihanna - 'Love the Way You Lie'
Cee-Lo Green - 'Fuck You'
Jay-Z & Alicia Keys - 'Empire State of Mind'
Lady Antebellum - 'Need You Now'
Holy collaborations... hopefully the epic battle between Eminem/Rihanna and Jay-Z/Alicia Keys cancels out all their votes, paving the way for...
Who Will Win: Cee-Lo Green
Who Should Win: Cee-Lo Green
Best New Artist:
Justin Bieber
Drake
Florence + The Machine
Mumford & Sons
Esperanza Spalding
... ... ... ... ... If there is a God, Bieber will not win. I don't even know who Esperanza Spalding is... but I wish her more success than Justin Bieber. Florence and the Mumfords have the talent, but Drake has had a more successful year on the charts. Who to choose...
Who Will Win: Florence + The Machine
Who Should Win: Florence + The Machine
Best Dance Recording:
Goldfrapp - 'Rocket'
La Roux - 'In For The Kill'
Lady Gaga - 'Dance In The Dark'
Rihanna - 'Only Girl (In The World)'
Robyn - 'Dancing On My Own'
Goldfrapp!!!! This could be the funnest category for the Grammy's. Look for La Roux to capitalize on her chart success with a win.
Who Will Win: La Roux
Who Should Win: Robyn
