Jo's Pick of the Week: Look, I'm not gonna lie to you, I'm probably biased. No, let's face it, I am biased, but that's fairly irrelevant when the song I'm biased about really speaks for itself anyway; that song being 'Say It Too' by a guy called Mark Harding, who may not be a household name (yet) but after hearing this track, he's a name in my household and he's gotta start somewhere I guess. Thankfully Mark's start has been a little more interesting than my little house, because as an intergral part of Little May's lineup I am (more than) slightly biased in saying he's pretty much already one of our faves, but the beautifully smooth beats, the completely laid back sensation and his delightfully subdued vocal make this a song I actually, genuinely like and I'm not gonna lie, no bias needed, it's a song I can feel myself beginning to love very, very quickly. Matt's Pick of the Week: I was introduced to the music of Cloves in the way I'm introduced to many of my favourite new artists... while a fictional character I had come to love more than some of my best friends was ripped away from me on one of twenty five four or five television programs I should be embarrassed to admit that I watch. Emphasis on the should be. Anyway, less about TV shows about vampires directed at people at least fifteen years younger than me and more about Cloves. Hailing from Melbourne and now living it up in the USA, Kaity Dunstan/Cloves has been working hard to build a name for herself as a singer/songwriter on the rise. 'Better Now' features a voice full of wisdom far beyond Cloves' twenty-something years, the words and music are as gorgeous as they are heartbreaking from the very beginning ("Then I hear you leave, and I'm happy, just for a moment I'm free, then it dawns on me, that no time has passed, now it won't last, and I'm getting nowhere fast, and that's a fact."), there's fire in the chorus and a hope that we'll be hearing more of this from an artist of Cloves' caliber for a long, long time to come. At the very least, I can look forward to hearing her music during some forced emotional moment between a witch and sea monster on a television show that I would actually watch and what were we talking about? Matt's Pick of the Week: Phebe Starr, how I've missed you. But you're back now and you're back with this incredible track 'Feel My Love' that is going to put smiles on faces all around the world. This is irresistible pop, the kind that runs through your entire body and makes you want to dance and have fun and do amazing things. The instant replay value is ridiculous, don't be surprised if you find yourself in a 'Feel My Love' loop for a couple of hours as you explore all the wonderful little touches that make the track as great as it is. And even though I haven't been able to stop listening to it for a few days now, I've got a feeling I'm only going to love this new one from Phebe Starr more and more as the year goes on. Hopefully this is the first of many big things coming our way from Starr this year! Oh and when that chorus hits? Too good. More please. (Matt Bond)

Jo's Pick of the Week: So I’m having a little bit of trouble believing that this is the debut single from The Ruiins. No, seriously, I’ve googled over and over, looking for something, anything, anywhere to tell me where they’ve played, who they are and what else they’ve done, because there is a maturity and a simple comfortability in ‘Eventually’ that suggest they’ve been playing together a thousand years (possible exaggeration) and surely I’ve seen them and heard them somewhere before. This track is everything I love about unpretentious rock and perfect blues, doing exactly what any song I love should do, which is to take my mind away from my laptop to places I’d rather be and making me want to sway in ways only guitars know how to. If this is only their first release, I am so looking forward to hearing more from this duo from the Gold Coast. (Jo Michelmore)

#8 - Your Summertime Road Trip Mix

Let's go on a road trip!

Maths has never been my strong point. You see, apparently I can't seem to grasp the very basic concept of counting. I started filling out the Music Listography book last year, highlighting my favourite songs, bands, albums and more in various lists. I thought I was currently up to list #13. I was wrong. Somewhere along the way I decided 8 was a number we could all learn to live without, so we're going to rectify that right now with the next entry in our life in lists. Since it's (the saddest) summer (ever), now's a pretty good time to bust out the twenty songs I love to get my road trip on with.

#8 - Your Summertime Road Trip Mix

Who doesn't enjoy going for a good old road trip in the summer? There are some essential things you're going to need to make a road trip a roaring success. First things first, you're going to need a car. Preferably one that can drive long distances. Second, you need the weather to be awesome. I know, I know... you don't have control of the weather yet. You will someday, but not now. Until then, make sure it's going to be a pretty sweet day before planning an RT. An ice-cold drink will come in handy, but most importantly, you're going to need an excellent selection of music. Optional things to bring with you include a satellite phone, water to last three days, a map and some sort of weapon you know how to use. I've seen Wrong Turn, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre and The Hills Have Eyes. Bad things can happen to good people! Oh... don't forget to find some friends, for they can increase your survival chances. I mean... a road trip is way more fun with people you like and stuff?

We already knew she had an obsession with 'Hollywood,' but Marina and her new persona, Electra Heart seem set to give us a unique perspective on all things related to the American dream in 2012. 'Radioactive' gives us our first real taste of who Electra is and the sounds she's going to unleash upon us. Excited much? How could you not be after listening to this?!

Here's my original review from April;

'Bad Romance,' version 2.0? Not quite, but get ready to hear 'Judas' just as much. The song seems to follow a fairly similar formula to 'Bad Romance' but it's pumped up more to be a club thumper, no remixes necessary. But she'll probably release a remix CD anyway. 'Judas' has hooks that instantly grab onto your brain and refuse to let go, making it a huge step up in my books from 'Born This Way,' which warranted about ten more plays to appreciate. Any fears for the quality of Born This Way (out next Saturday) should be put to bed with this one. New music is just flying out from all corners at the moment, but it's all quality stuff! 2011 continues to bring the goods...

I forgot to mention that it's a fantastic slice of pop music and the video is one of her best, but apart from that I still like everything I wrote. Plus, I was right about the remix album.

You can officially add Bag Raiders to that list for the massive buzz they generated from their debut and self-titled album, Bag Raiders. Joining The Temper Trap, Lisa Mitchell, Sarah Blasko and Bernard Fanning as one of the 31 most interesting Australian acts in music today, it's the Bag Raiders. Enjoy!
