The Answer
by Avec Sans
It’s been five months since I first heard the delicious sounds of this
mysterious little duo from London; Avec Sans. Back then, with the
releases of ‘Perth’ and ‘Heartbreak Hi’, I didn’t know much about them
and to be honest, I still don’t know much. I do know they seem to have
made a name for themselves amongst us music blogging types and since I’m
one of them you can call me biased if you like, but I don’t care, I
like this single as much as their others. A little darker than the pop
tinged ‘Heartbreak Hi’, the verses are heavy beats and synth addictive
until the chorus kicks in and hits you in the face with its “I am not
the answer” repeated lyrics. This just makes me more and more hungry to
hear what else they can come up with.
Burn It Down
by Ricki-Lee
This 'Burn It Down' track would appear to be the vehicle Ricki-Lee will be using to launch some sort of attempt at an international break. It's ridiculously meh-tacular and extremely forgettable, but if Havana Brown can somehow crack America then there's always a chance this will too. Meh.

Spectre
by Curxes
A favourite of ours here at itsmykindofscene, I have waited very
patiently for a clip to the amazing song that is ‘Spectre’ from the UK’s
Curxes. While it’s been a long wait, sometimes patience is rewarded and
this clip is certainly a big reward. There are two ways you can look at
it. On one hand, it is small visions of simple animation, a boys
adventures(?) with a background of silhouetted buildings and LP’s
spinning endlessly. On the other hand, it’s a complex story, the tale of
a boy’s life and the hardships he faces, while images of buildings from
singer (and animator) Roberta Fidora’s hometown, Portsmouth, spin in
the background, over a visual commentary of LP’s and record labels that
have gone before us. On one hand, this clip is simply awesome, as is the
song. On the other hand, this clip is more than awesome and makes me a
bigger fan of a little band that I hope are destined for huge things.
Bel Air
by Lana Del Rey
By 1:53 I’d seen blue, green, purple, grey, green, grey, blue, green,
grey and green again. I’d seen Lana turn left four times and right three
times. If we say there’s another two minutes fourteen seconds of this, I
can assume we’d see another three or four colours, more green
repeated, a few more right turns and a few more left. I don’t actually
know, I couldn’t be bothered watching any more. If something else
happened let me know.
Jo Michelmore gives the 'Bel Air' video one Germaine Greer out of five...
