London Fashion Week is taking over the creative capital of the world and I had the pleasure of attending Bunmi Koko's show this morning. Amongst the fashionistas and press were a couple of pop stars, former Sugababe Keisha Buchanan and American girl group, The Beach Girl5. I know... you're probably thinking, "who or what is a beach girl 5?" They're an LA based girl group looking to replicate the worldwide success of the Spice Girls by covering a multitude of musical genres. Aka they're the latest, funnest girl group. The five lovely ladies were in London town for a couple of days to promote their debut single, 'Scratch,' a fairly inoffensive piece of pop by girl group standards.
If they're going to launch an attack on the UK market they couldn't have picked a better time. Sugababes version 4.0 had to head back to the studio after the commercial failure of Sweet 7 and it would seem that Girls Aloud won't be releasing anything new for quite some time (Cheryl's already gearing up to release her second solo album). So where does that leave us? With a major girl group hole just waiting to be filled. The Saturdays are trying their hardest to get in, but maybe The Beach Girl5 will beat them to it.
Do these ladies have the potential to crack the UK market? Let me know what you think.
Hell yeah they do. I love them I have done for a while now but they are only recently been recognised in the UK. But I love then. Amazing :)
ReplyDeleteHmmm, it's an interesting question and one that requires more thought. Maybe if I could be bothered plugging in my speakers to listen to the wonder that is The Beach Girl5 I'd have an opinion on this but alas....it's too far down to reach the plugs.
ReplyDeleteHave fun and happy pondering :)
