Song of the Day - Way Back Home

Bag Raiders - Way Back Home
Album: Bag Raiders (2010)

Australian dance and electronic music has come a long way over the past couple of years. The Presets, Cut Copy, Duck Sauce, Yolanda Be Cool and Empire of the Sun have all made major waves at home and abroad with some catch tunes. You can officially add Bag Raiders to that list for the massive buzz they generated from their debut and self-titled album, Bag Raiders. Joining The Temper Trap, Lisa Mitchell, Sarah Blasko and Bernard Fanning as one of the 31 most interesting Australian acts in music today, it's the Bag Raiders. Enjoy!

Countdown - Hottest 100 #1's

Smells like Head and Shoulders...

The unveiling of the JJJ Hottest 100 on Australia Day each year is pretty much one of the coolest things ever. You get to sit back and relax with some friends (like Jack Daniels and Jim Beam) while one hundred of the best songs from the previous year play over the radio. This year, Angus and Julia Stone's 'Big Jet Plane' has been predicted to take the numero uno spot, but I'm looking for a big upset from one of the acts that I voted for. Who did I vote for? How nice of you to ask...

* Arcade Fire - Ready to Start
* The Black Keys - Tighten Up
* Crystal Castles ft. Robert Smith - Not In Love
* Kanye West ft. Dwele - Power
* M.I.A - XXXO
* Marina and the Diamonds - I Am Not A Robot
* Operator Please - Like Magic (AUS!)
* Robyn - Dancing On My Own
* Seven & M-Phazes - Possums (AUS!)
* Sia - Clap Your Hands (AUS!)

I've been seeing a lot of diversity in terms of people's votes, so I have no idea what's going to happen this year which makes it all the better! Who did you vote for? And if you haven't voted, make sure you do at http://www.abc.net.au/triplej/hottest100/10/ Non-Australian readers, make sure you get your votes in too... the JJJ Hottest 100 is the biggest fan-voted countdown in the world, so anyone can take part!

To get you ready for this year's countdown, we're going to pit the 19 songs that have claimed the #1 position against each other! What's the #1 song out of the #1 songs on the Hottest 100? Let's find out...

Song of the Day - Sweet Disposition

The Temper Trap - Sweet Disposition
Album: Conditions (2008)

We're four days into the new year and we're now four artists in on our 'Australian only' Song of the Day month, celebrating the best Australian artists currently producing music. ARIA award winning group, The Temper Trap, are reportedly heading back into the studio to release their make or break sophomore album, which is due for release by the end of the year. Do they have another 'Sweet Disposition' in them? Only time will tell, but I've got a feeling these guys are going to come up with something that will blow all of us away.

Pimping Ain't Easy

This 'face for radio' wants to blog for Channel [V]!

I've never been that good at pimping myself out... but I'm going to attempt a little somethin' somethin' right here, right now. If you're a fan of my "work" here, I could use a small favour. Channel [V] Australia is looking for bloggers for their B430 program and I want to be one of them! So, how can you help me out? By voting for me! There are a couple of things you'll need in advance; 1. a facebook account and 2. access to a valid Australian telephone number and address. If you're outside Australia, coming up with these should be a fun experience (but I'd really appreciate your time and effort).

You'll need to go to Channel [V] Australia's facebook page which is, http://www.facebook.com/#!/vmusic.com.au. Once you've liked it, you need to go into the B430 section which is up the top next to where it says Wall, Info, Photos and all that jazz. You then need to add the Channel [V] Global Animal application. Once you've added it, head down to 'Vote For My Friends' and you can find me in search under Matthew (not Matt!). I'm the sexy beast sitting on the tiger giving the smirkiest of smirks. Then you can vote for me and I will love you forever. You know what, I'll add the picture above, so you know EXACTLY which one it is (enjoy!).

You can help out even more by getting your friends (and family, co-workers, acquaintances, strangers you encounter on the street etc.) to vote for me too! Sorry for the hassle, but this is something that I would really, really like to do and it would help turn the labour of love that is It's My Kind of Scene into something a bit more meaningful. Thanks for reading and more importantly, thanks for voting!

Song of the Day - Neopolitan Dreams

Lisa Mitchell - Neopolitan Dreams
Album: Wonder (2009)

It's Lisa Mitchell, former Australian Idol contestant, current indie-pop chanteuse. She's been a little bit quiet on the Australian front lately, but she's slowly picking up steam throughout Europe and the Americas. Now all she has to do is send out an announcement saying she's back in the studio and all will be as it should.

New Music - What The Hell, Avril?

Hey, Hey, You, You... What?

Avril Lavigne - What The Hell
Album: Goodbye Lullaby (2011)

Avril goes Gaga? Not quite, thankfully, but the former pop-punk princess is clearly embracing the electro trend on new single, 'What The Hell.' The song blends Avril's standard 'I can't and I won't but I don't and I won't' carefree 'tude and pop-rock roots with your basic electro-pop backing track, making it sound similar to one of Pink's party songs (think 'So What' or 'Raise Your Glass'). Not that there's anything wrong with that and while Pink's out of the game being pregnant and sh*t, Avril can claim that rabid, angry and slightly scary (when in a mob) fanbase all for herself.

Rating: 2.5/5

What do you think of 'What The Hell?' Will it see Avril return to the top of the charts, like previous #1 single, 'Girlfriend?'
