Song of the Day - Heart Attack (CSS Remix)

Asteroids Galaxy Tour - Heart Attack (CSS Remix)
Album: Out of Frequency (2012)

What happens when you get a banging new Asteroids Galaxy Tour and throw in the remix stylings of CSS? Magic happens... that's what. CSS have had a very good 2011, so it's nice to see them give a group after their own heart a bit of a rub going into the new year. Hopefully with all the attention being given to them, Asteroids Galaxy Tour will drop one of the best albums of 2012 and have a huge year!

Top 111 Songs of 2011, #111 - 101

Wait... Coldplay? Yep. Coldplay.

Yesterday we looked at the honourable mentions, but now it's time for the real deal; the top songs of 2011! It's Bjork vs PJ Harvey; Kasabian vs Kaiser Chiefs; Lady Gaga vs Lykke Li... and so on and so forth. From established big name acts to emerging new talent, 2011 has given us so much quality music that cutting it down to 111 songs proved to be nearly impossible. Clearly it wasn't impossible though because, you know, here we are. Countdown... commence!!!

#111 - Ain't Nobody
by Clare Maguire

Meet me in the red sky and dance with me,
Let the valley change you and the night set you free.

#110 - It's Nice to Be Alive
by Ball Park Music

I'd prefer your enthusiasm, while you're here with me...

Australia can be proud of its contributions to pop music in 2011. You had breakthrough years for Gotye, Seeker Lover Keeper and Cut Copy (to name just a few) as well as exciting new acts like Boy and Bear, San Cisco and Brisbane's own, Ball Park Music! Hopefully all of these acts can make a big impact on the Triple J Hottest 100.

Song of the Day - Met Before

Chairlift - Met Before
Album: Something (2012)

Chairlift just missed out on making the top 111 songs of 2011, but it looks like they've already got a good shot of making the 2012 list with new single, 'Met Before.' Look for this New York electro duo to be one of the next big things in the new year with the release of sophomore album, Something, in late January. Alright, I'm going to listen to this about four hundred times more now. Enjoy!

Top 111 Songs of 2011, Honourable Mentions

Bon Iver... best of 2011?

Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, alien overlords from the not-so-distant future wanting to learn about quality music in the 2000s... this is the beginning of the greatest countdown of the year; the top songs of 2011! "But what about songs released in December?" you say. Well, dear reader, songs from December are automatically added into the 2012 list. "But why?" you exclaim. Because one month or less is not nearly enough time to adequately judge a new track against its older competition. That's why. That's all there is for housekeeping so grab a drink, find a most comfortable seated locality and get ready to hear the greatest songs from one of the best years the music industry has had in quite some time. Since it was so good, we've boosted the honourable mentions for 2011 to twenty. That's right... twenty!!! All amazing tracks in their own right that narrowly missed out on making the official list. Are you excited for this? I'm excited for this! Let's hear some sweet, sweet music...

Honourable Mentions:

Shuffle
by Bombay Bicycle Club

Why won't you believe in it,
Until it's gone.

Something To Die For
by The Sounds

Don't say goodbye, just leave an open door,
I wanna hear you say, you give me something to die for.

Need You Now
by Cut Copy

I know I'm running baby,
But I need you now...

Brendan's Death Song
by Red Hot Chili Peppers

And you are love, you are the lucid dream, you are the ride,
And when you hear this you know it's your jam, it's your goodbye.

White Elephant
by Ladytron

Hey, put our pistols down, crawl along the ground,
Where we won't, won't be found.

Song of the Day - For What It's Worth

Stevie Nicks - For What It's Worth
Album: In Your Dreams (2011)

For what it's worth... I'm so excited to see Stevie Nicks tonight at the Riverstage in Brisbane! Literal dance moves galore, semi-coherent rants and dedications to lost loves will abound and the crowd will love every second of it. 'Landslide,' 'Edge of Seventeen,' 'Wild Heart,' 'Dreams,' 'Rhiannon,' 'Stop Draggin' My Heart Around,' 'Rooms on Fire.' These are some of the best songs in the history of rock music. I can't wait to hear (hopefully) all of them. See you tonight?
