Top 111 Songs of 2011, Honourable Mentions

Bon Iver... best of 2011?

Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, alien overlords from the not-so-distant future wanting to learn about quality music in the 2000s... this is the beginning of the greatest countdown of the year; the top songs of 2011! "But what about songs released in December?" you say. Well, dear reader, songs from December are automatically added into the 2012 list. "But why?" you exclaim. Because one month or less is not nearly enough time to adequately judge a new track against its older competition. That's why. That's all there is for housekeeping so grab a drink, find a most comfortable seated locality and get ready to hear the greatest songs from one of the best years the music industry has had in quite some time. Since it was so good, we've boosted the honourable mentions for 2011 to twenty. That's right... twenty!!! All amazing tracks in their own right that narrowly missed out on making the official list. Are you excited for this? I'm excited for this! Let's hear some sweet, sweet music...

Honourable Mentions:

Shuffle

by Bombay Bicycle Club

Why won't you believe in it,

Until it's gone.

Something To Die For

by The Sounds

Don't say goodbye, just leave an open door,

I wanna hear you say, you give me something to die for.

Need You Now

by Cut Copy

I know I'm running baby,

But I need you now...

Brendan's Death Song

by Red Hot Chili Peppers

And you are love, you are the lucid dream, you are the ride,

And when you hear this you know it's your jam, it's your goodbye.

White Elephant

by Ladytron

Hey, put our pistols down, crawl along the ground,

Where we won't, won't be found.

Top 300 Songs of the 2000s, #200 - 191

Pink: She's got her rock moves and she don't need you tonight.

We're in top 200 territory! Keep an eye out for hits from the biggest acts in the music industry today. They'll be popping up all over the place. Mostly here. Mostly now. And tomorrow. And the next day. Probably the one after that too. You get my point, right? Wonderful.

#200 - Hearts On Fire (2007)

by Cut Copy

With hearts on fire I reach out to you tonight...

They've just released their latest album, Zonoscope, to virtually universal critical acclaim. Will any song on it be able to match their incredible hits from the past like 'Hearts On Fire?' Go get the album and find out for yourself!

Song of the Day - Take Me Over

Cut Copy - Take Me Over

Album: Zonoscope (2011)

Bag Raiders, The Presets, Pnau, Empire of the Sun and now... Cut Copy! If you thought Australia didn't have much to offer in the electronic music department, you were wrong... so there. Disregarding my immature arguments, Cut Copy have been one of the best acts to come out of Australia for some time now and it looks like their stock can only be increased with the release of third album, Zonoscope, next month. The first official single is 'Take Me Over,' conveniently chosen for you as your Song of the Day here on It's My Kind of Scene. So, what say you people; are you fans of the Cut Copy? Are you a big enough fan to iTunes the album when it's released?
