by Eliza Hull
EP: to be released July 2013
You'll hear words like ethereal, heartfelt, calming, intense, emotional to describe Eliza Hull. Her new single, Echoes, deserves so much more than those words. Beginning softly, with a haunting sound and Eliza's beautiful voice chiming in "....heartstrings pull me back to you..."; it floats around you, slowly making it's way into your consciousness, making you stop and listen as it rests gently on your shoulders. There's something inncoent about parts of the sound but the vocal is so exceptionally heartbreaking it's mature beyond Eliza's years. (I don't know Eliza's years, but that's beside the point, alright?) By the time the vocal builds toward the end of the song you're desperately hoping it will never end. This is a song I can't wait to see live, as I know the goosebumps it induces are going to be phenomenal. Eliza Hull is a name you should remember, with singles like this, she has a long career of comforting and breaking hearts over and over again.

Recover
by Chvrches
EP: Recover (March 2013)
Let's just be up front about this one from the beginning. I love this song. With catchy little songs like this, Chvrches could quickly become one of my fave acts of 2013. It's only February, I know, but that's how much I love this song. The three piece from Scotland are quickly making a name for themsleves and rightly so. How could you not love this? It starts strongly with synths and beats provided by Iain Cook and Martin Doherty complimented by Lauern Mayberry's super cute vocal; Recover has an incredibly catchy hook that's been stuck in my head for a couple of days now and a wall of synths that scream to be turned up and played loud. Then, wait for it, there's a handclap that kicks in about a third of the way through. This. Is. Awesome. This is synth pop at it's best. (and just to add a little more impressive, It's My Kind Of Scene faves Curxes have remixed the track which will be available on the EP, to be released in March). I can't quite cope with the awesome of it all. Love, love, love.

NEW MUSIC VIDEO OF THE WEEK
So Good At Being In Trouble
by Unknown Mortal Orchestra
Album: II
One of those clips that's more like a short film than a music clip, the new one from Unkown Mortal Orchestra, with it's retro inspired look, suits the sound of So Good At Being In Trouble, it's almost hard to tell what came first, the clip or the song. Set on a California-esque beachside, it's a little bit creepy and a little bit weird, but that's what makes it hard to take your eyes off. Like an episode of Home And Away, it won't change your life, but it will fill in a few minutes nicely to pass the time.
