Introducing - The Beach Girl5

London Fashion Week is taking over the creative capital of the world and I had the pleasure of attending Bunmi Koko's show this morning. Amongst the fashionistas and press were a couple of pop stars, former Sugababe Keisha Buchanan and American girl group, The Beach Girl5. I know... you're probably thinking, "who or what is a beach girl 5?" They're an LA based girl group looking to replicate the worldwide success of the Spice Girls by covering a multitude of musical genres. Aka they're the latest, funnest girl group. The five lovely ladies were in London town for a couple of days to promote their debut single, 'Scratch,' a fairly inoffensive piece of pop by girl group standards.

If they're going to launch an attack on the UK market they couldn't have picked a better time. Sugababes version 4.0 had to head back to the studio after the commercial failure of Sweet 7 and it would seem that Girls Aloud won't be releasing anything new for quite some time (Cheryl's already gearing up to release her second solo album). So where does that leave us? With a major girl group hole just waiting to be filled. The Saturdays are trying their hardest to get in, but maybe The Beach Girl5 will beat them to it.

Do these ladies have the potential to crack the UK market? Let me know what you think.

Around the World - Canada

Oh Caaaanaaadaaaa! We've taken the long flight from Auckland to Toronto to have a meet and greet with the male singer, female singer and group that will be representing the second largest country in the world (clearly not population, duh). Will they be French Canadian like Celine Dion? Or normal Canadian like uh... everyone else? While you're here, try the Canadian bacon with maple syrup... mmm bacon.

Male Artist - Michael Buble

Can't go wrong with a bit of jazz. Not only can he belt out a tune, he makes ladies swoon... maybe even the lady judges presiding over the music world cup. The USA will likely utilise their sexiest stars, but I see Canada being a bit more subtle about it.

Female Artist - Feist

Yeah, so I picked Feist because it feels like it's been at least twelve years since she released her debut album. You know the one... it had '1, 2, 3, 4' on it and got her nominated for Best New Artist at the Grammys. I can't think of a better place for her to debut something amazing than an imaginary music competition. Can you?

Group - Arcade Fire

They're at the height of their popularity right now and this would only catapult them into superstardom.

Short and sweet this round, but to make up for it, next time we're going to be making a couple of stops. Sweden and Germany!

Song of the Day: You Take My Breath Away

The Knife - You Take My Breath Away

Sweden's going to come up sooner or later on my musical adventure around the world. Will The Knife get to represent the Swedes in the group category? What about Jenny Wilson as female artist? She's featured here on 'You Take My Breath Away' as a guest vocalist. Check out the video for 'You Take My Breath Away' and let me know what you think. Does Ms Wilson stand a chance against Robyn? Oh, and you can't count out The Knife's own Karin Dreijer Andersson aka Fever Ray.

Around the World - New Zealand

Welcome back to It's My Kind of Scene's world tour, in which we'll be selecting one male artist, female artist and group to represent each country in a battle for musical dominance! On our last stop we met Team Australia (Bernard Fanning, Missy Higgins and The Presets). Now we're taking the short flight to New Zealand to meet our second group of contestants. Are you ready to find out who will be representing the Kiwis?

Male Artist - Liam Finn

Liam Finn is a cool guy, pretty much destined to become a rock star in his own right (his Dad would be Neil Finn of Crowded House) and would be the best man to represent New Zealand. He'd definitely put on a show that could see him earn many new fans from around the world.

Female Artist - Bic Runga

Ladyhawke would be an excellent choice, but no other female artist from NZ can do a better live performance than Bic Runga. If you can get past how cool the TV presenters are in the video above, you'll understand why I chose her over the aforementioned Ladyhawke, Gin Wigmore or even Brooke Fraser. Plus, she deserves to be known for more than contributing 'Sway' to the American Pie soundtrack.

Group - Crowded House

Who else? They're the biggest band in New Zealand's history and currently on the comeback, with their 6th studio album, Intriguer, released in June of this year. Not content with just being crowd pleasers, they'd probably be the emotional high point of the show.

Well, that's Team New Zealand. Where should we look to next? How about... Canada! See you next time boys and girls.

New Music: Willow Smith, Ben Folds & Nick Hornby + Good Charlotte

Watch my swagger and don't be a hater.

Willow Smith - Whip My Hair

She's 9 years old? Take that Bieber! Alright... there's no denying that, even at such a young age, Ms Smith has the talent (and the financial backing of A-List movie star parents and Jay-Z's record company) to make it in the music industry. She's got a voice that's way more mature than what her age would suggest (it's also deeper than Bieber's) and 'Whip My Hair' isn't that bad. Aka it's not that good either, but at least the hairography writes itself. And just WHO is the target audience here? If she's putting herself forward as girl-Bieber, I don't see young boys crumping to Willow's sick beats. Will girls? Is it going to get club play and, if so, will you want to be getting down to the vocal stylings of someone that won't be able to get into said club for another 12 years (let's go by US laws)? 'Whip My Hair' would be perfect for the Rihanna's and Ciara's of the world. But a 9 year old? We can expect big things from Willow Smith in the future, I just don't think now's the time (go be, you know, a kid or something). We'll find out after the initial hype from 'Whip My Hair' dies down.

Good Charlotte - Like It's Her Birthday

Oh, wow... I pheel dum afta listnin 2 ths. You thought it couldn't get worse than 'Keep Your Hands Off My Girl?' WRONG. Try to listen from start to finish. I dare you.

Ben Folds & Nick Hornby - From Above

If you combine the lyrics from the author of High Fidelity with composition from one of the most underrated male artists of all-time, what do you get? A win, kids... that's what you get. Expectations have been quite high for this collaboration since it was announced and if 'From Above' is an indication of what the rest of the album (Lonely Avenue) is going to sound like, than we're in for a treat. If you're wondering who the lovely lady is providing supporting vocals, it's none other than Kate Miller-Heidke.

Song of the Day: Watching the Planets

Best... live... act... EVER!!!

The Flaming Lips ft. Karen O - Watching the Planets

This was the one song that I was really looking forward to hearing when I saw The Flaming Lips at the Green Man Festival. So, of course, they didn't play it. But that's ok, they still remain the best live act I've seen this year (giant laser hands, running through the crowd in a giant bubble, super sized balloons falling from the sky - what's not to like?). 'Watching the Planets' was the lead single from last year's amazing Embryonic and features guest vocals from the Yeah Yeah Yeahs Karen O.
