Song of the Day - Fireball

Willow Smith ft. Nicki Minaj - Fireball
Album: Willow (2011)

Let's be honest... this song is 'Whip My Hair' with the added bonus of a G-rated Nicki Minaj rap. Don't you just love it though? This sneaky eleven year old knows how to craft a catchy tune. Well, maybe. I'm not sure what sort of role Ms Smith actually has in the whole 'creative process.' What I do know is Willow is... THE FIREBALL AT THE PARTY, SHE THE FIREBALL SHE THE FIRE, FIRE, FIRE." Yep. She's the fire. What?

Song of the Day - Give Me All Your Love

Madonna - Give Me All Your Love
Album: TBA (2012)

For real-real or for play-play? Demo... or not a demo? Regardless of this leaked version of 'Give Me All Your Love' being the final product or not, we've got our first taste of new Madonna since 2009s greatest hits collection, Celebration. "BUT IS IT ANY GOOD?" you scream at me... all in capitals. What's up with that? Let's just say, if you're one of the Queen of Pop's lifelong fans, you'll love it out. Probably out of some misguided sense of duty or something. If you're not a fan, you're likely to deride the opening as Madonna's take on Avril Lavigne's 'Girlfriend' and curse the catchy chorus that you'll never admit to liking whilst sober. The chorus is the highlight of the track and that's a good thing. Club play is generally a guarantee for Madge and that chorus will ensure the trend continues. That's a good thing for Madonna, but a bad thing for the haters that'll be all drunk at the clubs and telling anyone near them how much they, "luv thiz shong!!!" I look forward to laughing at you real soon.

Song of the Day - No Light, No Light

Florence + The Machine - No Light, No Light
Album: Ceremonials (2011)

After two months of amazing travels, writing some for real-real articles (on fashion and design, because I am nothing but fashionable... duh!) and knocking some big-time acts off my musical bucket list (The Cure, Bjork, PJ Harvey... Britney), I'm back in Australia and ready to get my blog on. Sigh. I mean, get excited! Go crazy with cheers and applause. That's enough! Don't get too crazy just yet. First, check out Florence Welch's amazing new single, 'No Light, No Light.' Then you may go crazy. The track contains all of the elements that makes Ceremonials such a brilliant album; lyrics that read like a beautifully violent fairytale, epic choruses that attach themselves to your brain and never let go and Welch's soaring siren vocals that draw you deeper and deeper into her world. The album is currently sitting pretty at #1 in the UK and Australia.

Song of the Day - Shoot the Bullet

Queen of Hearts - Shoot the Bullet

Yeah, so... What to say. Queen of Hearts seems like she has the potential to be a really cool electro lady. She's got that Goldfrappy vibe going on, there's some nice vocals on display... But it's all just a bit 'been there, done that' boring isn't it? The video seems to sap all the energy the song possesses, which is a shame. Then you've got the Queen of Hearts persona, which is an amalgamation of every other eccentric female artist out there right now. Like I said, a lot of potential here and once she releases the video for 'Freestyle' I'm sure my tune will change. Perhaps just listen to 'Shoot the Bullet' without watching the video.

Song of the Day - Don't Make A Fool Out of Me

Kitty Daisy and Lewis - Don't Make A Fool Out of Me

This is just too much fun! We see enough 80s throwbacks everyday, so it's nice to see the 50s and 60s getting some love. It's just really cool, alright?

Song of the Day - Scale It Back

DJ Shadow ft. Little Dragon - Scale It Back

Little Dragon + DJ Shadow have provided the perfect sound for these last remaining days of beautiful sunshine in Europe. I'm sure they didn't intentionally cater to my need for a new summer relaxation number, but it's nice to pretend they did. So I will. What of it? DJ Shadow has lined up some pretty cool collaborators for his new album (and admittedly a couple of duds), but none can top the voice of the great Yukimi. Little Dragon have been on a roll this year!
