2012 Triple J Hottest 100 - Hottest Choices
The Triple J Hottest 100 countdown for 2012 (even though it's in 2013, but it's for the year that was... you know?) is just around the corner, so we had to get our vote on. Since it's Australian Music Month here on It's My Kind of Scene, we thought we'd mix it up a little this year. I was only allowed to pick songs by Australian acts, while Jo could only pick songs by international artists. It's Australia vs The World... which of our hot picks will triumph? I can tell you what we didn't pick. That 'Thrift Shop' song. Is that seriously a top contender? Screw you Triple J, what's up with that? Anywho, if you're yet to vote and find yourself looking for some inspiration, here are ten Australian-made songs you might love and ten songs by international superstars Jo's deemed worthy for selection. Let's get to it...
AUSTRALIAN ONLY
as selected by Matt Bond
I Can Make You Love Me
by British India
Told You So
by Cub Scouts
Boy
by Emma Louise
Griffin
by The Medics
Alone With You
by Phebe Starr
Promises
by The Presets
I Awake
by Sarah Blasko
Dance Bear
by Snakadaktal
Elephant
by Tame Impala
Heart Says Yes (Head Says No)
by Texas Tea
All songs chosen because they're awesome. And Australian. Yep.
INTERNATIONAL LOVIN'
as selected by Jo Michelmore
Do It With A Rockstar
by Amanda Palmer and The Grand Theft Orchestra
…because of all the reasons I’ve already written about on the blog,
numerous times over and because basically, Amanda Palmer is the best.
Sweet Sour
by Band Of Skulls
…because I’ll never forget standing against the barrier, front row at
Splendour In The Grass, screaming “sweet sour, sweet sour” over and over
and over and well, live music is something I love.
Gold On The Ceiling
by The Black Keys
…because of that amazing giant disco ball during this song that made everything so magical at their gig last year.
Thinkin' Bout You
by Frank Ocean
…because I just like it, alright?
Love Interruption
by Jack White
…because…oh Jack, oh sigh….
Bad Girls
by M.I.A
…because my chain hits my chest while I’m bangin on the dashboard.
Madness
by Muse
…because it’s the song that finally made me sit up and take notice of a band I never really cared for before.
The Keepers
by Santigold
…because I can’t get that chorus out of my head every time I hear it.
Lafaye
by School of Seven Bells
…because of the collection of words in the first verse “the familiar,
unfamiliar would be the only thing you knew”. I’m a lyric nerd. What of
it?
Angels
by The xx
…because it’s just so damn beautiful.
The Triple J Hottest 100 countdown is on Australia Day (duh). Go on and vote for your 10 fave songs over at the Triple J site.
