New Music Monday #22

Azealia Banks!

She Wolf (Falling To Pieces)
by David Guetta ft. Sia
Album: Nothing But The Beat 2.0 (2012)

It didn't work for Shakira and it hasn't worked for Sia and that French guy. Ladies and gentlemen, don't ever call one of your songs 'She Wolf.' Chances are it's going to suck and blow. The combined powers of Guetta's repetitive beats and Sia's voice worked well on last year's 'Titanium,' but this just comes across as completely underwhelming. Things I thought I'd never say about a Sia associated track? "But I can't compete with the she wolf who has brought me to my knees." What? Huh? What? Being able to sing the tune to 'Titanium' throughout the chorus isn't helping matters either. Or is it? You can expect to hear this in every club for the next six months (especially in Europe... Aspire à être vous, France), which isn't overly appealing, but at least it should give Sia another big profile boost before the release of her next solo album.

Every Chance We Get We Run
by David Guetta and Alesso ft. Tegan and Sara
Album: Nothing But The Beat 2.0 (2012)

Tegan and Sara - 1, Sia - 0. P.s. damn you Guetta! Ah, who am I kidding? He's alright.

I Can Make You Love Me
by British India

Memorable guitar riffs, sing-along segments ("You wanna fight, fight, fight, fight fire with fire), kinda depressing lyrics when you think about it. Easily the best song you're going to hear today. British India have just become the Australian alternative band to keep your eyes and ears on.

NEW MUSIC VIDEO OF THE WEEK

1991
by Azealia Banks
EP: 1991 EP (2012)

Yes! Who else agrees that Azealia Banks has released the perfect 90s video for '1991?' TLC, Whitney Houston, Brandy, Monica... all would be proud. Then they'd listen to the lyrics and be a bit turned off... but the video, oh the video! I was disappointed to hear we wouldn't be hearing her debut LP until next year. When she releases a cool video like this, it just makes me want to hear what's coming next from her even more. Bring on 2013!
